Securing the vehicle on level ground

On level ground: place chocks or other
suitableitemsunder the front and rearof
the wheel that is diagonallyopposite the
wheel youwishtochange.
Securing the vehicle on slight downhillgradients
X
On downhill gradients: place chocks or
othersuitableitemsinfront of the wheels
of the front and rearaxle.
Raisingthe vehicle

WARNING
If youdonot position the jack correctly at the
appropriate jacking point of the vehicle,the
jack could tip overwiththe vehicle raised.
There is ariskofinjury.
Only position the jack at the appropriate jack-
ing point of the vehicle.The base of the jack
mustbepositioned vertically,directlyunder
the jacking point of the vehicle.
The following mustbeobservedwhenraising
the vehicle:
R
to raise the vehicle,only usethe vehicle-
specificjack that hasbeentested and
approved by Mercedes-Benz. If used incor-
rectly, the jack could tip overwiththe vehi-
cle raised.
R
the jack is designedonly to raise and hold
the vehicle for ashort time whileawheel
is being changed.Itisnot suited for per-
forming maintenance work under the vehi-
cle.
R
avoid changing the wheel on uphilland
downhillslopes.
R
before raising the vehicle,secure it from
rolling away by applying the electricpark-
ing brake and positioning wheel chocks.
Neverrelease the electricparking brake
whilethe vehicle is raised.
R
the jack mustbeplacedonafirm,flatand
non-slip surface. On aloose surface, a
large,load-bearing underlay mustbeused.
On aslippery surface, anon-slip underlay
mustbeused, e.g. rubber mats.
R
do not usewoodenblocks or similar
objects as ajack underlay.Otherwise, the
jack will not be able to achieve its load-
bearing capacity duetothe restricted
height.
R
make sure that the distance between the
underside of the tiresand the ground does
not exceed1.2 in (3 cm).
R
never place your hands and feetunder the
raised vehicle.
R
never lieunder the raised vehicle.
R
never startthe engine when the vehicle is
raised.
R
never openorcloseadoororthe trunk lid
when the vehicle is raised.
R
make sure that no persons are present in
the vehicle when the vehicle is raised.
