Wat is DECT?
DECT (Digital European Cordless Telecommunication) is de standaard voor
draadloze digitale telefoons en draadloze telecommunicatie-installaties, die
door de Europese standaardiseringsinstantie ETSI is gedefinieerd.
Tegenwoordig wordt DECT hoofdzakelijk gebruikt voor draadloze telefoons in
de particuliere sector, hoewel met DECT veel meer mogelijk is.
Geschiedenis
In 1988 moest het nieuw opgerichte European Telecommunications Standards
Institute (ETSI) een Europese norm voor digitale draadloze telefoons definiëren.
Er bestond weliswaar een Britse (CT2) en een Zweedse norm (CT3), maar de
ETSI besloot om een compleet nieuwe norm te definiëren, die veel verder zou
moeten gaan. Dit was het begin van DECT.
In juni 1991 gingen de belangrijkste onderdelen van de norm de fase van de
openbare becommentariëring in en al in 1992 kwamen de eerste DECT-
apparaten in de handel.
In 1994 kreeg DECT een extra impuls door de definitie van het Generic Access
Profile (GAP) waardoor apparaten van verschillende fabrikanten met elkaar
konden worden gecombineerd. Tegenwoordig zijn alle DECT-apparaten
grotendeels GAP-compatibel.
De ontwikkeling van DECT gaat ondertussen gewoon door. Er worden continu
nieuwe uitbreidingen bij de ETSI gedefinieerd.
DECT is een mobiel zendsysteem waarvan het vaste deel uit een of meer
basisstations bestaat. Het andere deel van het systeem is het mobiele station.
Het is mogelijk meerdere mobiele stations te gebruiken en dus bijvoorbeeld
meerdere draadloze telefoons binnen een woning of kantoor.
Ook kunnen er meerdere basisstations in een vast mobiel zendsysteem worden
gebruikt zodat een groter oppervlak (gebouwencomplex) kan worden
bestreken of meerdere gesprekken tegelijk kunnen worden gevoerd. De
basisstations worden dan door een interne besturingsmodule (Fixed Part
Controller) gestuurd.
