Informationen zum Vorbild:
Der Triebzug RAe TEE II wurde als Viersystem-Triebzug
1961 für die SBB gebaut. Dies hatte den Vorteil, dass der
Zug ohne große Aufenthaltszeiten an den Systemgrenzen
eingesetzt wurde. Neben dem besonderen Komfort besaß
der Zug nur Wagen der 1. Klasse.
TEE Lackierung, eintönigen Anstrich in hellgrau/dunkelgrau.
1999 ausgemustert. Einer der Züge wurde 2003 in originaler
TEE-Lackierung wiederhergestellt und ist ein historisches,
betriebsfähiges Fahrzeug der SBB Historic.
Information about the Prototype:
The RAe TEE II powered rail car train was built for the
SBB in 1961 as a four-system powered rail car train. The
advantage of this was that the train could be used across
power system limits without long stops. The train has a
special level of comfort and only cars with 1st class seating.
The propulsion system for the original and for the model is
in the middle car. Only the middle car was set up with a side
corridor; the other cars were arranged as open seating cars.
After the end of TEE service and the beginning of Eurocity
connections in 1987, the 5 class RAe powered rail car trains
now operating as 6-car trains were rebuilt. Second class
seating was installed, and the class designation was there-
fore changed to RABe. These powered rail car trains were
given a light gray / dark gray paint scheme in keeping with
the EC look, but one that was rather monotone compared
to the elegant TEE paint scheme. These trains were run on
the routes Zürich-Milan and Zürich-Stuttgart and were soon
known as „Gray Mice“. The trains‘ age however became
increasingly noticeable, and when transformer damage and
axle breaks mounted up, they were reduced to TGV feeder
service between Bern and Frasne and were retired by 1999.
One of the trains was overhauled and restored in 2003 to the
original TEE paint scheme; it is now an historic, operational
train belonging to the group „SBB Historic“.
