MAGNAT QUANTUM 1000 - BI-WIRING AND BI-AMPING
Bi-wiringmeansusingseparatecablestocarrythehighandlowaudiofrequencies.Bi-ampingtakesthisideaonestepfurther
and uses separate power amplifiers as well as separate cables for high and low frequencies. Bi-amping in particular
produces anadditional improvementin soundreproduction quality.
The specialconnection terminalsof theQuantum1000loudspeakers supportboth conventionalconnection andoperation
in bi-wiring and bi-amping modes. There are four screw terminals on each speaker. The top pair are for the tweeter (high
frequencies),thelowerpairforthewoofer(lowfrequencies).Thefactory-installedcablesstripsconnectingthepositiveand
negativeterminals areforconventional 2-wireconnectionand mustberemoved forbi-wiringand bi-ampingoperation.The
pictures below showthe correct set-up forconventional operation(fig. 3a),bi-wiring (fig.3b) andbi-amping (fig.3c).
MAINTENANCE
Thelacqueredsurfaceisbestcleanedwithamildhouseholdcleaner.Onnoaccountusefurniturepolishorsimilarproducts
on thesesurfaces.
HOW TO AVOID DAMAGE TO YOUR VALUABLE SPEAKERS
All MAGNAT loudspeakers are designed and built for optimum sound reproduction with the tone controls in the central
position–i.e.with“linear”amplifieroutput.Turningupthebassandtreblecontrolstoofardeliversmorepowertothewoofers
and/or tweeters,and athigh volumesthis canactually destroythe speaker units!
Ifthe outputofyouramplifier issignificantlyhigherthan theratedpowerhandling capacity ofyourspeakersextremely high
volumescanphysicallydestroyyourspeakers.Thisdoesn’tactuallyhappenoftenbutyoushouldbeawarethatitispossible.
Weak amplifiers with low output ratings can actually be more dangerous for your speakers at medium volumes because
weakamplifiers mayoverloadmuch fasterthanpowerfulones andthiscauses measurableandaudible distortion,whichis
extremely dangerous toyour loudspeakers.
Alwaysturnthe volumedown immediatelyas soonas youhear distortion!If youlike listeningtoloudmusicmake surethat
your amplifier candeliver at least asmuch poweras thespeakers’power-handling rating.
THE SOUND YOU CAN’T HEAR...
Amplifiers, tuners andCD playerscan all produceinaudible high-frequency signals – andthis doesn’t onlyapply tocheap
products. If your tweeters fail at low or medium volumes you should have a qualified technician check your system
components fordangerous inaudible signals.
