8.2 Disassembling / assembling pull-
out systems
8.2.1 Notes on disassembly
You can disassemble some of the pull-out systems for
cleaning. Your appliance can contain a variety of pull-out
systems.
The following pull-out systems can be disassembled or
cannot be disassembled:

8.3 Defrosting the appliance
WARNING
Appliance incorrectly defrosted!
Injuries and damage.
uDo not use mechanical devices or other means to accel
erate the defrosting process, other than those recom‐
mended by the manufacturer.
uDo not use any electrical heating or steam cleaning
equipment, naked flames or defrosting sprays.
uDo not remove ice with sharp objects.
Defrosting is performed automatically. The water from the
thawing process runs out via the drain opening and is
evaporated.
uClean the drain opening regularly (see 8.5 Cleaning the
appliance) .
8.4 Defrosting the freezer compartment
manually*
A layer of frost or ice forms after longer periods of opera‐
tion.
The following factors may accelerate frost or ice formation:
- The appliance is opened frequently.
- Hot food is placed in the appliance.
uSwitch off the appliance .
uDisconnect the power plug or fuse.
uWrap the frozen food in newspaper or blankets and store
in a cold place.
uPut a pot with hot (but not boiling) water on a middle
shelf of the compartment.
wThis speeds up defrosting.
uLeave the compartment and appliance doors open during
defrosting.
uRemove pieces of ice that come loose.
uIf necessary, soak up the water with a sponge or a cloth
several times.
uClean the appliance (see 8.5 Cleaning the appliance) .
8.5 Cleaning the appliance
8.5.1 Preparation
WARNING
Danger of electric shock.
uUnplug refrigerator or disconnect power.
WARNING
Danger of fire
uDo not damage the refrigerant circuit.
uEmpty appliance.
uPull out the power plug.

uActivate CleaningMode. (see CleaningMode)
8.5.2 Cleaning the housing
NOTICE
Improper cleaning!
Damage to the appliance.
uOnly use soft cleaning cloths and ph-neutral all-purpose
cleaners.
uDo not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.
uDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or
those containing sand, chloride, or acids.
WARNING
Risk of injury or damage due to hot steam.
Hot steam can cause scalding/burns and damage to
surfaces.
uDo not use steam cleaners.
uWipe the housing down with soft, clean cloth. If very
dirty, use lukewarm water with a neutral cleaner. Glass
surfaces can also be cleaned with glass cleaner.
8.5.3 Cleaning the interior
NOTICE
Improper cleaning!
Damage to the appliance.
uOnly use soft cleaning cloths and ph-neutral all-purpose
cleaners.
uDo not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.
uDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or
those containing sand, chloride, or acids.
uPlastic surfaces: clean by hand with a soft clean cloth,
lukewarm water and a little detergent.
uMetal surfaces: clean by hand with a soft clean cloth,
lukewarm water and a little detergent.
uDrain hole: remove any deposits with a thin item such as
a cotton bud.
8.5.4 Cleaning the equipment
NOTICE

Damage to the appliance.
uOnly use soft cleaning cloths and ph-neutral all-purpose
cleaners.
uDo not use steel wool or sponges that scour or scratch.
uDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaning materials or
those containing sand, chloride, or acids.
