Bitmap-lettertypen en schaalbare lettertypen
De printer gebruikt zowel bitmap-lettertypen als schaalbare lettertypen.
Bitmap-lettertypen zijn in het printergeheugen opgeslagen als vooraf gedefinieerde patronen van bits
die een letterbeeld met een bepaald formaat, bepaalde stijl en bepaalde resolutie voorstellen. In de
volgende illustratie ziet u een voorbeeld van bitmap-lettertypen.
Bitmap-lettertypen zijn beschikbaar in verschillende stijlen en met verschillende puntformaten in de
vorm van laadbare lettertypen. Neem voor meer informatie over laadbare lettertypen contact op met
de leverancier van de printer.
Schaalbare lettertypen (ook wel outline-lettertypen genoemd) zijn opgeslagen in
computerprogramma's die de omtrek van de tekens in het lettertype definiëren. Telkens als u tekens
van een schaalbaar lettertype afdrukt, maakt de printer een bitmap van de tekens met het
puntformaat dat u hebt gekozen, en wordt deze bitmap tijdelijk opgeslagen in het printergeheugen.
Deze tijdelijke bitmap-lettertypen worden verwijderd als u de printer uit zet. Schaalbare lettertypen
bieden flexibiliteit die het mogelijk maakt af te drukken in vele verschillende puntformaten.
De printer maakt gebruik van verschillende indelingen voor schaalbare lettertypen om de lettertypen
te laden. PCL 6-emulatie maakt gebruik van Intellifont en Tr ueType schaalbare lettertypen.
PostScript 3-emulatie maakt gebruik van Type 1 en TrueType schaalbare lettertypen. Er zijn
duizenden verschillende schaalbare lettertypen leverbaar in deze verschillende indelingen van
talloze leveranciers van lettertypen.
Als u van plan bent veel laadbare bitmap-lettertypen of schaalbare lettertypen te gebruiken of als u
van plan bent verschillende grootten van schaalbare lettertypen te gebruiken, moet u waarschijnlijk
extra geheugen voor de printer aanschaffen.
