temperature varies depending on the part of the body where it is measured.
The variation can be between 0.2 – 1° C. Temperatures measured with
different thermometers cannot be compared with one another.
Tell your doctor or take into account when diagnosing yourself what
thermometer you used in what part of the body to measure the temperature.
INSERTING/REPLACING THE BATTERY
The battery must be replaced urgently when the display shows the symbol
of “ ” (see drawing 1). Before replacing the battery, check that the
thermometer is off to avoid damaging the mechanism.
1) Let the cover of the battery compartment slide.
2) Insert a pointed object in the battery compartment, such as a pen, and
lift the battery trying to remove it.
3) Put a new battery under the metallic hook on the left and press
downwards the battery towards the right until a click is heard. The
positive pole must be positioned upwards.
4) Reassemble the cover on the battery compartment.
Remove run down batteries by sliding the cover of the batteries compartment,
following the arrow direction.
Extract the batteries and dispose them as special waste at the specific
collection points forecast for recycling.
For more information about the disposal of run down batteries, please
contact either the store where the device containing the batteries was
purchased, or the Municipality, or the waste disposal local service.
Caution: For greater safety, children younger than 12 years
should not remove the batteries.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR CORRECT USE
MEASUREMENT OF EAR TEMPERATURE
Caution!
In order to assure an accurate temperature measurement, clean the any part
of the probe using a cotton swab soaked in alcohol after each use. Make
sure that the probe is perfectly dry before use.
AN IMPROPER CLEANING OF THE PROBE CAN RESULT IN NOT
RELIABLE TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS.
1) Clean the ear where the probe will be positioned.
2) Switch on the thermometer by pressing the key O/I; the device emits a
short acoustic signal. On the display all function symbols do switch on,
just for few seconds. Then, the thermometer displays for few seconds
the last measurement performed (see fig. 2).
3) To obtain an accurate measurement, gently pull the ear towards outside
in order to straighten the ear canal (see fig. 3) and let the probe adhere
to this latter pointing at the eardrum membrane (see fig. 4).
4) Keep the "O/I" key pressed until a long acoustic signal indicates
that the measurement has ended (the time necessary to perform a
measurement ranges between 5 and 30 seconds according to the
person's temperature).
5) Then, remove the probe from the ear; read the measured value on
the display. When the detected temperature is lower than 38.0°C, the
display shows the drawing “ ” (see fig.5); while when it exceeds this
value “ ” appears (see fig.6). Note: The temperature shown on the
display corresponds to oral temperature.
6) The device turns off automatically after one minute if it is not used for
such time.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
Before and/or after each use clean the thermometer probe with a cotton swab
soaked in alcohol to assure reliable measurements and to avoid microbial
contaminations. The probe is the most delicate part of the thermometer.
Pay utmost care to it during the cleaning.
Let the probe dry completely for at least 30 minutes.
The thermometer body has to be cleaned using a soft and dry cloth. DO
NOT WASH THE THERMOMETER BODY WITH WATER. Absolutely do not
use abrasive products and do not immerse the thermometer in water or
other liquids. Store the thermometer in a dry and clean place, away from
direct sunlight.
POSSIBLE PROBLEMS AND RELATED SOLUTIONS
Problem: The thermometer detects temperature values lower than the
actual ones
Solution: Check the correct positioning of the probe in the ear canal.
Read the paragraph "Taking ear temperature" again.
The probe could be dirty, clean it before and/or after each use
with a cotton swab soaked in alcohol.
Drawing 1
Problem: Flat battery.
Solution: Replace the battery.
Drawing 2
Problem: The display shows "Lo" or "Hi". Room temperature is not
included between +10°C and +50°C.
Solution: It is necessary to consider that the thermometer has to be
already in the room, in which the measurement will be carried
out, half an hour before the actual measurement performance;
while the person should be in the room for at least 30 minutes
before performing the measurement. Room temperature has to
range between +10°C and +50°C.
Drawing 3
Problem: The display shows “Err”. Room temperature is not included
between +16°C and +40°C.
Solution: It is necessary to consider that the thermometer has to be
already in the room, in which the measurement will be carried
out, half an hour before the actual measurement performance;
