12.3 Virtuele modems
Hoewel in het spraakgebruik vaak gesproken wordt over een
ISDN-modem, is een ISDN-pc-kaart technisch gezien geen
modem. Er vindt geen MODulatie en DEModulatie plaats, de
ISDN-telefoonlijn is digitaal. Communicatieprogramma’s hebben
voor hun werking vaak een modem nodig. Om uw pc-kaart te
gebruiken met die communicatieprogramma’s worden er zoge-
naamde ‘virtuele modems’ geïnstalleerd onder Windows’95 en NT.
Virtueel slaat op het feit dat er geen fysieke modem geïnstalleerd
is op uw pc. De software zorgt ervoor dat het voor Windows lijkt
alsof er modems zijn geïnstalleerd.
Communicatie vindt plaats met behulp van het V.120 of X.75
protocol (zie figuur 32), waarbij signalen volledig digitaal blijven.
De andere partij moet eveneens beschikken over apparatuur die
samenwerkt met een V.120 of X.75 modem.
1 Klik op Start -> Instellingen -> Configuratiescherm.
2 Dubbelklik op Modems.
