La pente :
Mesure de l’inclinaison.
La friction :
La force produite par deux surfaces qui frottent l’une contre l’autre lorsqu’un objet est en mouvement.
L’effet mécanique :
Un calcul mathématique qui indique combien de fois une machine simple multiplie la force résultant de l’effort. Dans le
cas du plan incliné, l’effet mécanique se calcule ainsi :
(Note : Pour mesurer la longueur de la pente sur une vis, il faut mesurer la longueur du filet – la saillie autour de la vis.)
L’effet mécanique est toujours exprimé comme un nombre sans unité. Exemple : EM = 2.
Concepts-clés
Un plan incliné est utilisé pour soulever une charge sur une distance verticale. Plutôt que de soulever l’objet
directement, ce qui nécessite un effort équivalent au poids de la charge, on augmente la distance sur laquelle le
travail s’accomplit. Dans le schéma suivant, la distance inclinée est 4 fois plus longue que la distance verticale.
Pour déplacer l’objet le long de cette pente, seulement 1/4 de l’effort sera nécessaire. Cet effort cependant, doit être
maintenu sur une plus grande distance (4 mètres comparé à 1 mètre).
Plus la pente du plan incliné est longue, moins la force nécessaire pour soulever la charge est grande.
Le travail accompli pour déplacer la charge le long du plan incliné est équivalent au travail accomplit pour soulever
la charge verticalement (sans compter la friction).
