Chain
The chain should be regularly cleaned to remove dirt and sand particles and greased with the appropriate lubricants. We
recommend cleaning the chain with a cloth and having it checked at least once a year by your specialist dealer. The bike chain
is the part which is most subject to wear and tear. Particularly cycles used in the rain or in humid weather, the chain should be
treated with the appropriate care materials otherwise surface rust can arise on the chain’s surface which can damage the chain
within a short period of time. The chain should not be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner.
A new chain cannot tolerate a worn freewheel; the chain’s jumping and snapping is the consequence. It is recommendable to
change the chain and freewheel at the same time.
The chain’s condition can, see figure, be checked. It should only be able to be slightly lifted from the freewheel base. If the
distance between the chain and the chain ring is larger than 2mm it is absolutely necessary to change the chain. It is in this
way that a premature wearing of the chain ring and freewheel is avoided.
Important Advice!
The wear and tear of the chain wheels and the freewheel can be reduced with regular chain maintenance.
