...notes on disc playing equipment
The Audio Visual output of a Digital Versatile Disc, Compact Disc, or laser disc can be connected
to any of the 3 Audio Visual sockets of your TV, but for better quality it is recommended that they are
connected to either scart sockets AV1 or AV2.
If digital Audio, such as PCM, Dolby Digital, DTS or MPEG multichannel is to be employed, a special
connection will need to be made to your television. You have a choice of two formats when connecting
this type of equipment - an optical connection or a co-axial connection.
Only one connection should be made - if both the optical an co-axial
formats are connected, the optical link will take priority.

Remove the dust covers from the optical output of the external disc player you wish
to connect to your television.
Store these in a safe place.
Using a special optical lead
available from high street retailers make the connection between the two points. You are
now ready to view the contents of your chosen disc.
optical connection
If the coaxial connection is to be used, connect a 75 phono cable between
the coaxial output of your Digital Versatile Disc, Compact Disc or laser Disc and the
coaxial input of your television.

The Dolby Digital RF output of a laserdisc player cannot be
connected to the digital audio input directly. Please obtain an RF
demodulator from an electrical retailer. When using a Laserdisc
player in conjunction with an RF digital demodulator, ‘popping’ may
occur while carrying out various search operations with the player.
