Good Night Story
It’s bedtime. Little sheep Dreamy and his brothers and sisters are all tucked safely
in their beds. But Dreamy cannot fall asleep; something is unusual. He looks out of
the window at the sky. “The moon looks sad”, thinks Dreamy, “and very gloomy”.
The soft slumbering light of the moon has accompanied Dreamy every night into his
dreams.
“I have to comfort him” Dreamy thinks. Then very silently, so as not to wake up his
brothers and sisters, he slips out of bed. He approaches the window and whispers to
the moon “Hello Mr. Moon, why are you so sad tonight?”. The moon sighs “Dear
little sheep, don’t you see? I’m all alone. All of my star friends have disappeared”.
“But where are the stars?” Dreamy asks. The moon again sighs, “they thought the
lights on earth were so beautiful they too wanted to shine in those colorful hues.
So they simply let themselves drop from the sky”.
“Don’t be sad, dear moon. I’ll help you bring them back” says Dreamy. In the blink of
an eye Dreamy gets dressed and sets off to search for the missing stars. In a garden a
light appears sparkling under a bush. Dreamy hurries up to it, pushes some branches
aside and takes a look. A tiny sad star is sitting in the bush.
Dreamy asks the star “Little star what happened to you? Why are you so sad?”.The
little star answers tearfully “I saw all those sparkling colorful lights on earth and I
wanted to be part of them. But I miss the moon so much. I’d rather shine up there
next to him, if only I could be back up in the sky again!”. “Maybe I can help you”
Dreamy says as he carefully picks up the tiny star and takes him into the middle of
the meadow. Then Dreamy swings his arms with all his might and throws the star
back up into the sky. Delighted to be back in the sky; the little star shines brighter
than ever.
Excitedly Dreamy immediately goes searching for other stars. He looks by the swing
and underneath the apple tree. He even finds a sad star in the sandpit. Dreamy
searches the whole garden and one by one finds all the stars. Then one by one the
little sheep throws each star back up into the sky. As each star is home again, the sky
brightens up a little bit more. The moon is so happy he shines as brightly as he can.
Gratefully he thanks Dreamy “My very sincere thanks to you, little sheep; everything
is fine again. Now quickly you must go to bed and fall asleep. You must be tired after
all of your hard work”.
That’s when Dreamy becomes aware of how tired he really is. Very happy to have
helped the stars, he goes back into the house and lies down in his bed. Once more
he looks out of the window up at the moon and says “Good night, dear moon,
good night, dear stars.” Then he closes his eyes and blissfully falls asleep.
