Kamado Genius Guide by Grill Guru
RUST
CAST IRON
Rub the grate or pan clean with a steel wool
scouring pad. Then apply a new seasoning:
Wash vigorously with warm water and, as
an exception, a little soap. Then dry well
Rub vegetable oil on kitchen paper to grease
everything. This can be done with the Grill Guru
Care spray. Use an oil which can withstand high
temperatures. Olive oil is not suitable. Rub with a
clean piece of kitchen paper to remove excess oil.
Bring your Grill Guru up to 125 degrees Celsius
and heat the grid or pan for about an hour.
METAL
Rust formation on the metal parts of the
kamado is almost impossible to prevent when
it is left outside all year round. This has to
do with humidity. Even if the kamado is kept
dry, for example under a veranda, and the
cover is used, condensation will form on the
metal because of temperature dierences.
You can maintain this, so that rust has as
little inuence on the kamado as possible. It is
important that it is regularly rubbed with, for
example, WD40 so that the metal remains well
greased and moisture can get the least grip
on it. To reduce the rust you can carefully rub
the rust spots with a very ne sandpaper or
scouring pad and then apply the tip with WD40.
MOULD
WOODEN PARTS
Make the bamboo wet and scrub the tables
thoroughly with a hard brush. This will clean
the bamboo thoroughly and remove fungus
and other dirt. For stubborn dirt you can use a
little green soap. Rinse the bamboo well with
clean water and then let it dry. Then sand the
bamboo with a sander just as you would do
with solid wood. Start with medium sandpaper
and nish with ne sandpaper. Make sure that
you sand the bamboo evenly with the grain.
Sand until the old varnish layer is gone. After
cleaning and sanding, it is important that the
bamboo is immediately sealed with a wood
oil suitable for bamboo, or with synthetic
resin or water-based epoxy lacquer.
OUTSIDE OF THE KAMADO
Has mould developed on the outside? You
can remove them by wiping your kamado
with soapy water to which you add a small
dash of bleach or mild detergent. Then wipe
the kamado with a clean cloth and plenty of
water to remove all the (bleach) water.
