14. Error messages and warnings
The ULTRAMAT 14 incorporates a wide range of protective and monitoring systems designed to
check the charger’s functions and monitor the state of its electronics. If any of the unit’s limit values
are exceeded, in some cases the unit’s settings are automatically reduced (e.g. charge current); in
others the charge process is switched off (e.g. car battery almost flat).
The liquid crystal screen displays the cause of the error. Most error message are self-explanatory,
but you may find the following list useful when fault-finding. The warning message and the audible
warning signal can be switched off by pressing the „MODE“ button.
This warning message is displayed if the voltage of the car battery
falls
below 10.0 V or rises above 18.0 V.
If the charger detects an interruption of the connection between
battery and charger during a charge process, the screen displays
this error message.
If you see this error message when the charger is in use, it may
indicate an intermittent contact.
Note: the same error message also appears if you deliberately
interrupt the charge process, e.g. by disconnecting the charge lead.
If the battery voltage falls too low or rises too high during the charge
process, the screen displays this error message.
The ULTRAMAT 14 halts the charge process.
The ULTRAMAT 14 is protected against short-circuit at the charge
output.
After a brief period this error message is displayed on the screen.
Eliminate the short-circuit, then press the MODE button to return to
the Charge menu.
This warning message is displayed if the unit’s charge outputs are
connected to a battery with incorrect polarity.

The charger is entirely maintenance-free in use, and requires no maintenance of any kind.
However, it is in your own interests to protect the unit from dust, dirt and damp.
To clean the charger disconnect it from the car battery and any other battery, and wipe it clean
with a dry cloth (don’t use cleaning agents!).
15. Cleaning and maintenance
Automatic current limiting
When a charge program comes to an end, the screen displays the
message END, alternating with the program name. At the same time
the integral buzzer sounds for a limited period, unless you have
already disabled it.
If you set a charge current which the ULTRAMAT 14 cannot deliver
because it falls outside its technical limits, the unit automatically
reduces the current to the maximum possible value. To warn you of
this, the screen displays the automatically reduced current,
alternating with the warning message „CHG MAX“.
Possible causes of an automatic current reduction include:
- Converter power insufficient to produce the selected charge current.
- Overload protection tripped due to high charger temperature - current reduction protects the unit
from overloading.
- Car battery voltage too low to supply the selected charge current.
The warning message „CHG MAX“ also appears if the set charge current is too high for the
connected battery, and has to be reduced automatically.

12. Screen displays
The two-line liquid-crystal screen displays in a clear form the important information generated du-
ring the charge process. The information remains visible on-screen until you disconnect the batte-
ry that is being charged. Once you press the MODE button to charge another battery, the pre-
viously displayed values are erased, and cannot be called up again.
13. Monitor displays on the screen
The ULTRAMAT 14 incorporates a wide range of protective and monitoring systems designed to
check the charger’s functions and monitor the state of its electronics. If any of the unit’s critical
limit values is exceeded, the charge process is switched off. Typical triggers would be over-
voltage, excessive temperature or a depleted car battery.
If any of these problems occur, the liquid crystal screen displays the cause of the error, and the
buzzer sounds to alert you.
