Before using for the first time
Before using for the f i rst time
In this section, you can find out what you must do
before using your appliance to prepare food for the first
time. First read the section entitled ~ "Important
safety information" on page 5.
The appliance must be fully installed and connected to
the mains.
After connecting the appliance to the power supply, the
"Initial settings "menu will be displayed. Now you can
now configure your new appliance for initial set-up.
Notes
The "Initial settings" menu will appear only after the
appliance has been connected to a power supply
and switched on for the first time, or if the
appliance has not been connected to a power
supply for a number of days.
Once the appliance has been connected to a power
supply, the GAGGENAU logo will appear first for
approximately 30seconds. The "Initial settings"
menu will then appear automatically.
You can change the settings at any time in the basic
settings.
Setting the language
The preset language appears in the display.
1Turn the rotary selector to select the required
display language.
2Confirm with .
Setting the time format
The two possible formats 24h and AM/PM appear in the
display. The default is the 24h format.
1Use the rotary selector to select the desired format.
2Confirm with .
Setting the clock
The time is shown in the display.
1Set the desired time using the rotary selector.
2Confirm with .
Setting the date format
The three possible formats D.M.Y, D/M/Y and M/D/Y
appear in the display. The default is the D.M.Y format.
1Use the rotary selector to select the desired format.

Setting the date
The preset date appears in the display. The day setting
is already active.
1Set the day using the rotary selector.
2Touch the C symbol to switch to the month setting.
3Set the month using the rotary selector.
4Touch the C symbol to switch to the year setting.
5Set the year using the rotary selector.
6Confirm with .
Setting the temperature unit
The two possible units °C and °F will appear on the
display. The default unit is °C.
1Use the rotary selector to select the unit you
require.
2Confirm with .
Setting the water filter
"Water filter" appears on the display. "Available "is set
by default.
If the water hardness exceeds 7°dH or the carbonate
hardness exceeds 5°dH, we recommend that you use
the descaling system GF 111100.
1Use the rotary selector to select either "Available"
(with water filter) or "Not available" (without water
filter).
2Press to confirm.
3If water filter "Available "was selected:
"Water filter capacity" appears on the display.
4Use the rotary selector to select the capacity of the
water filter used (100–9000litres). Observe the
information supplied with the water filter.
5Press to confirm.
Setting the water hardness
"Water hardness" appears on the display.
Note: The water hardness display only appears if "Water
filter - Not available" is selected.
1Use the enclosed carbonate hardness test to check
the tap water: Fill the measurement tubing up to the
5ml fill mark with tap water.
2Add the indicator solution drop by drop until the
colour changes from purple to yellow.
Important: Count the drops and carefully turn the
measuring tubing after every single drop until the
solution is thoroughly mixed in. The number of
droplets corresponds to the water hardness.
