Worn brake pads
The rubber brakes for brake pads are almost all
made with grooves and notches.
The grooves and notches help recognize when
the rubber brakes have been subject to too much
wear and tear. If the grooves and notches aren’t
visible anymore, then you must replace the rub
-
ber brakes.
What to do if the rubber brakes start rubbing
against the rim:
You can use the spring adjusting screws to adjust
the rear spring force in such a way that both rub
-
ber brakes lift from the rim the same way whenev-
er you let go of the brake lever. Finally, make sure
that the brakes are working properly (see chapter
“Adjusting the brakes”).
Brake blocks/pads and rims are wearing parts due
to their use. Have the state of wear inspected at
regular intervals by your FLYER specialist retailer.
Grooves in the brake blocks and embedded points
in the rims help you determine the level of wear.
The brake blocks or rims must be changed when
these grooves or points are no longer visible. Al
-
ways change both brake blocks at the same time.

Hydraulic rim brakes
Although hydraulic rim brakes require relative
-
ly little maintenance, they need to be regularly
looked at and eventually readjusted.
Due to the wear and tear put on the brake pads,
the brake levers will eventually need to be pushed
down harder to operate. When this happens, you
may have to adjust the rim brakes. As is the case
for most bike models, this can be done by adjust
-
ing a screw or a setting wheel on the brake lever.
Ask your FLYER specialist retailer for details.
Hydraulic rim brakes
To remove the front or rear wheel, you must rst
open the quick release lever on the brakes. To
do this, pull the lever downwards until writing
“OPEN” is read. Now remove the loosened brake
unit from the brake bosses by removing it pulling it
out from your seat. You should now have enough
room to dismount the wheel.
Attaching a new wheel required following this
procedure in reversed order. Before closing the
brakes’ quick releases, the brake must be posi
-
tioned in such a way that the rubber brake pads
touch the middle of the rim when the brakes are in
use. Make sure that on the quick release lever on
the brakes show the writing “CLOSED”.
You should at least perform a brake
test before taking the bike on
public roads again.
