What is so special with the ELAC AM 50?
With an ELAC active speaker you got a full-fledged product which can universally be connected to many different
sources, such as CD player, radio, streaming client or notebook computer. But it is also suitable for the professional or
semi-professional use (as recording monitor e.g. on a mixing console).
Because of its compact size, the AM 50 can be used in all situations where high level sound quality is demanded,
without the need of an additional power amp.
ELAC powered speakers are supplied with connections to nearly all kinds of audio sources.
The following sketch shows some possibilities.
Many audio sources provide outputs designed for headphones.
This output is not only suited for connection to headphones but also for general line level use such as the ELAC
powered speaker. A suitable adaptor from TRS plug 3.5 mm to RCA jacks is included.
In some cases using the headphone output has advantages compared to the alternative “Line out”, e.g. the devices
own internal loudspeakers are switched off (muted) by inserting the TRS plug, allowing the ELAC powered speaker the
audio reproduction alone. Please note: Some headphone outputs can only offer a sound quality which is below the
standard line output.
Your AM 50 provides a so called AUTO-mode. This mode holds the AM 50 MASTER in an energy saving standby mode, as
long as there is no music signal detected on one of the inputs. If a music signal is detected, the AM 50 switches over to
full operation immediately and the power amplifiers will be activated. If the music signal ends, the AM 50 will stay in
full operation mode for 10 minutes, before it switches over to the energy saving standby mode again.
