Subject to change because of technical improvements
The distance from ducts and sleeves to com-
bustible material must be at least 50 mm every-
where.
All elements of the air supply and the flue gas
exhaust system must be inserted at least 30 mm
into each other and be secured against coming
loose using clip bindings.
The duct must be kept in its position by means of
wall brackets and centring plates. The maximum
distance between the wall brackets is 2 metres.
The flue gas exhaust system and the outlet must
satisfy any local regulations that apply. This is a
closed appliance of type C11 or C31 (depending on
the choice of wall or roof sleeve).
The flue must end in a zone that is not affected by
surrounding buildings, trees close by or other
obstacles.
For outlets that are in the vicinity of a boundary par-
tition or ventilation opening, see the national and
regional regulations regarding this.
In the case of a wall sleeve, the outlet must be in a
zone such that any contact between flue gas outlet
and/or flue gases and people is impossible and
such that the flue gases cannot accumulate under
overhanging parts of buildings or awnings or such
like.
The flue gas outlet can reach temperatures of
200 °C, while the flue gases can reach 300 °C.
Existing chimney
Type C91
An existing flue gas pipe (chimney) can be converted
into a concentric flue gas exhaust system.
In this case, the following requirements apply to the
existing chimney:
The existing pipe must be leakproof and thoroughly
cleaned.
The pipe must be able to withstand temperatures
up to 600°C along its entire length.
The pipe may change direction no more than one
time, with a maximum change angle of 45° and
along no more than 25% of the total length.
The pipe must have a diameter of at least 150 mm
round or square, and no more than 250 mm round or
square along the entire length. The section may not
be larger or smaller than the specified limits at any
place. The section may vary over the whole length
of the flue pipe on the condition that the transitions
in section occur gradually.
If this last condition cannot be satisfied, the pipe
may be lined with stainless steel flexible piping
with a diameter of 150 to 250 mm, which is heat-
resistant to 600°C before it can be converted into
an air intake pipe.
The flue pipe must be closed at the top and bottom
with the recommended flanges (mounting plates).
The bottom of the flue section must always be con-
nected to the appliance using a concentric duct sec-
tion and the prescribed roof outlet must always be
mounted on the outlet side.
The maximum allowable length, including the con-
nection section (resistance length), is 12 metres.
Every elbow of 90° corresponds to 1 metre of res-
istance length and every elbow up to 45° cor-
responds to 0.5 metres of resistance length.
Floor and walls
The floor on which the appliance is placed must have
sufficient bearing capacity. The weight of the appli-
ance is given in the appendix “Technical Data
appendix”.
Keep sufficient distance between the appli-
ance and combustible materials such as
wooden walls and furniture.
Carpets and rugs must be at least 80cm away
from the fire.
For further requirements with respect to fire
safety, see the appendix "Distance from com-
bustible material".
