Playback
Playing Files Stored on USB Memory
Devices
Only USB memory devices conforming to mass storage
class can be played on the S-52.
Before Playing a USB Memory Device
The S-52 is compatible with USB memory devices in “FAT16” or
“FAT32” format.
If the USB memory device is divided into multiple partitions, only the
top drive can be selected.

The S-52 is compatible with “MPEG-1 Audio Layer-3” standards.
It is not compatible with “MPEG-2 Audio Layer-3”, “MPEG-2.5 Audio
Layer-3”, “MP1” or “MP2” standards.
The S-52 is compatible with ID3-Tag (Ver. 2 and 3) standards or META
tags.
Only files* that are not protected by copyright can be played on the
S-52.
z: Contents downloaded from pay music sites on the Internet are
copyright protected. Tracks ripped on a computer from a CD,
etc., and encoded in WMA format may be copyright protected,
depending on the computer’s settings.

Make the necessary preparations.
Connect the USB memory device to the set USB port.

Either turn <Multi Jog> or press 8 9 after
pressing <SOURCE> to select “USB” then press
ENTER, or press [USB/AUX].
b The display changes as follows each time you press a remote control
button.

Various types of playback are possible by selecting repeat
or random playback using [PLAY MODE].
Playing the Repeat Playback
q Press [PLAY MODE].
w Either turn <Multi Jog> or press [ui] to select “Repeat”, then press
ENTER.
e Either turn <Multi Jog> or press [ui] to select “Repeat 1” or
“Repeat All”, then press ENTER.

Playing the Random Playback

:
A single track is played repeatedly.
Repeat
All
:
All tracks are played repeatedly.
Random
Repeat
:
Once all the tracks have been played once in random
order, they are played through again, each time in a
different random order. (Random + Repeat All)
Off
:
Normal playback resumes.

NOTE
DENON will take no responsibility whatsoever for any loss or damage
to data on USB memory devices when using the USB memory
device connected to the S-52.
USB memory devices will not work via a USB hub.
DENON does not guarantee that all USB memory devices will operate
or receive power. When using a USB connection type portable hard
disk of the type for which power can be supplied by connecting an
AC adapter, we recommend using the AC adapter.
It is not possible to connect and use a computer via the S-52’s USB
port using a USB cable.
