timer is on. If the symbol is not shown, this function
is deactivated.
Advice
If no more buttons are pressed, the display goes
into sleep mode to save energy after 1 min. Press
any key to bring the display out of sleep mode.
Preparing the machine
Pour the desired amount of fresh, cold water into the wa-
ter tank with the aid of the glass jug min. 2 cups (250ml),
max. 12 cups (1500ml). Please refer to the water level
indicator for your desired amount of water, since this
indicator takes into account the amount of water that is
absorbed by the ground coffee and therefore lost.
CAUTION! Never fill the water tank with
more than 12 cups. Risk of scalding due
to bubbling over!
Place the jug on the hotplate under the swivel filter.
Rotate the filter forwards.
Put in a paper filter bag, size 1x4.
If you do not wish to choose any grinding function,
put your desired amount of ground coffee into the
paper filter. We recommend about 6.5 g of ground
coffee per cup (125 ml) for a normal coffee.
Please only fill the swivel filter with up to a maximum
of 100 g of ground coffee, otherwise the water will not
be able to pass through and the filter will overflow.
Now close the swivel filter. Listen for a click. It is only
correctly engaged once it has clicked shut.
Now choose Grinding Function / No Grinding
Function by lightly pressing the Grind/Brew knob
until you see the corresponding symbol at the top
left of the display.
If the symbol (BEAN) appears, the grinding functi-
on is on. If the symbol (Spoon with powder) appears,
the grinding function is off.
If you select the grinding function, please check that
there are sufficient coffee beans in the coffee bean
container.
Choose your desired coffee strength by lightly pres-
sing the Potency button until you see the corre-
sponding symbol underneath the time on the display.
weaker (6% less ground coffee)
normal
strong (6% more ground coffee)
Select the number of cups you want (2-12) by lightly
pressing the knob (2-12 cups) until you see the cor-
responding number at the bottom left of the display.
Choose Keep Warm Function / No Keep Warm
Function by lightly pressing the 15 , until you see the
corresponding symbol on the display.
No Keep Warm Function: The hotplate will not
come on unless the symbol is showing.
The keep warm function means that the hotplate
is active and will turn itself off again after 30 min.
When brewing is complete and you have selected
the keep warm function previously, a countdown will
be displayed to inform you of the time that the keep
warm function will remain on. Keep warm count-
down from 30 min to 1 min.
Starting up the machine
Now press the START/STOP button , and the
display will light up.
The device will now grind the quantity of beans nee-
ded for brewing the number of cups selected.
The ground coffee produced falls into the filter and is
brewed with hot water, after which the coffee trickles
into the glass jug.
If the grinding function is switched off, the previous
step is omitted and the ground coffee that you have
put in is brewed.
The LCD display keeps you informed of the current
state of brewing.
If you wish to interrupt the brewing process, press
START/ STOP. Please be sure to resume the brewing
within 3 min., otherwise the machine will turn off.
The anti-drip feature allows you to serve coffee, even
during brewing. However, we recommend that you
wait until the end of the brewing process for optimal
aroma.
If you do wish to serve coffee before this, we recom-
mend that you interrupt the brewing process (Start/
Stop).
The coffee is ready when the brewing process is com-
plete. The coffee will then be kept warm on the hot-
plate, unless this function has been switched off.
After the brewing process has finished, the “Clean
Filter” symbol appears. Please remove and dis-
pose of the paper filter.
You can also switch the coffee machine off manual-
ly, before the keep warm function has turned off, by
pressing the START/STOP button again.
The filter symbol disappears as soon as the swivel fil-
ter has been open for at least 4 seconds and is then
shut again. (A click sounds.)
Make sure that the filter cleaning symbol has disap-
peared before using the machine again.
Cleaning
On the grounds of safety, always take the mains plug
out before cleaning, and let the device cool down.
Never put the device in the dishwasher. Never immer-
se the appliance in water or any other liquid!
Wipe the housing with a damp cloth.
Caution! Sharp Edges!
Regularly remove coffee bean remains
from the grinding mechanism.
To do so, proceed as follows:
Please remove the beans left in the container.Turn the
grinding mechanism lock anticlockwise until the arrow
points to the symbol (open lock), and take the grin-
ding mechanism lock out.
Now turn the grinding level setting knob until the
arrow points to the red dot. Now push the arrow
downwards and turn the grinding level setting knob
clockwise until the top grinding mechanism has been
screwed out. Keep the arrow pushed downwards the
whole time while doing this.
You can now clean the grinding mechanism with a
paintbrush and/or a cloth.
Now put the top grinding mechanism back in. Please
make sure that both hooks grip the underside cor-
rectly in the corresponding recesses.
Turn the grinding mechanism setting knob anticlock-
wise until it snaps into place. The top grinding me-
chanism is now secure.
Now put the grinding mechanism lock back in and
turn it anticlockwise until the arrow points to the
symbol (locked lock).
Now select your desired grinding level again and fill
the bean container with coffee beans.
Please note: When the finer grinding levels are used,
the route from the grinding mechanism to the cof-
fee filter can quickly become clogged. Therefore,
the device and the conical grinder should be clea-
ned more often.
Clean the filter basket and the jug in warm was-
hing-up water, then rinse both thoroughly with water
and let them dry.
Do not use any scrubbing sponges made of metal, clea-
ning sprays, or any strong detergents or scouring agents.
Static charge of the ground coffee
Due to the abrasion that takes place in the coni-
cal grinder, it is unfortunately unavoidable that the
ground coffee becomes charged. This means that it
some of it may remain stuck in the ground coffee out-
let above the coffee filter.
Please remove this ground coffee residue with a
paintbrush or a cloth.
Limescale removal
Advice
The lime content of drinking water varies from
region to region. Please inquire about the water
hardness level at your waterworks or public utility.
Hard water requires more frequent limescale remo-
val, while soft water requires less frequent descaling.
The coffee machine should be descaled at regular
time intervals where water contains lime (depending
on the level of water hardness, approx. every 3-4
weeks). Regular limescale removal keeps the electri-
city consumption low and lengthens the service life
of your coffee machine. Use a customary limescale
remover when descaling and follow the instruction
for use of this product.
Please observe the following when removing
limescale with vinegar:
Put about 6 cups of water and about 150 ml of vine-
gar in the water tank and switch the device on.
After descaling, let 6 cups of clear water run through
the machine, twice, to rinse it out.
No warranty claims shall be valid for improper
function due to the build-up of limescale.
Error messages:
E1 and E2: Unplug from the mains. Clean the filter
and the ground coffee outlet. After at least 5 seconds,
plug in again.
E3: The grinding mechanism is blocked and the machi-
ne is overheated: Unplug from the mains. Let the machi-
ne cool down and clean the grinding mechanism.
E4: The filter is not in the right position. Open the
filter, wait for 4 seconds and shut the filter until you
hear the click. If the error message reappears: Unplug
from the mains, check the filter and the filter unit.
Start the machine up again after at least 5 seconds.
E5: The grinding mechanism lock is not engaged.
Please disconnect from the power supply, take out
and put the grinding mechanism and grinding me-
chanism lock back in again. Connect the power sup-
ply and start the machine up again after 5 seconds.
