Thoroughly defrost frozen meat and poultry in the
refrigerator before cooking. Keep raw meat and
poultry separate from cooked foods.
Ensure that the grill is thoroughly cleaned before
lighting the barbecue and cooking.
Always wash hands after handling raw meat and
poultry, before handling any ready to eat food.
Wipe and disinfect surfaces that have been in contact
with raw meat and poultry.
When barbecuing meat and poultry make sure the
barbecue is really hot. Place the larger, thicker portions
furthest away from the most intense heat to ensure
thorough cooking without burning and turn regularly.
Use separate utensils for handling raw meat/poultry
and cooked food on the barbecue, or wash them
thoroughly between use.
To check whether meat, particularly poultry is cooked,
pierce the flesh with a skewer or fork; the juices should
run clear. Ensure the product is piping hot throughout.
COOKING TIPS
1) Direct cooking
Place the piece of food to be cooked on top of the
cooking grid. This method is particularly suitable for
sausages, steaks, chops, fish etc.The lid can be closed or
left open.
2) Cooking on foil
In the case of small delicate pieces of food liable to slip
between the bars of the cooking grid, as well as
marinated or fatty meat, the grid should be partly
covered beforehand with a sheet of foil. Raise the
edges slightly in order to catch the juices, fat or
marinade.
N.B. Do not cover the grid completely.
3) Cooking with food wrapped in foil
Carefully wrap the food in foil to retain all the juice.
With this particular method, it is always advisable to
cook with the lid closed. This method is especially
suitable for fish, vegetable, potatoes etc.
4) The two-temperature method
The two-temperature method allows you to cook two
pieces at the same time at different temperatures, e.g.
medium steaks on one burner and rare steaks on the
other. Simply set the first burner to high and the other
to low.
5) The wet method
Pour a little liquid (water, wine, beer) into a corrugated
foil container (the liquid should not come above the
grooves) and place the food on top, either a roast or a
large bird. If necessary, add a little more liquid during
cooking.
N.B. In order to prevent food from sticking to the grid,
simply smear it with a little cooking oil or rub with greasy
paper. Never place anything on the cold grid. Any delicate
pieces of food liable to stick should preferably be placed
on a sheet of foil.
Note: preventing flare-ups
When released onto the lava rock, the fat or oil in the
marinade may cause flare-ups which in turn may burn the
food. In order to prevent this, take the following simple
precautions:
- Carefully drain off any excess fat from the meat and
soak up the marinade using absorbent paper (later
during the cooking process, you can brush the food
sparingly with marinade).
- Place any fatty pieces on foil for the first 10 to 15
minutes of cooking, until the pores of the meat have
closed. Complete the process over a low heat, directly
on the cooking grid. In the case of very fatty meat,
keep the foil in place until the food is completely
cooked.
- If, in spite of these precautions, the flames develop too
quickly, turn the gas off for a minute or so.
- As a general rule, fatty meat should be cooked over a
low heat.Where necessary, place small pieces on one
side of the barbecue. Transfer them to the other side if
flare-ups occur.

FOOD SAFETY
- Base walls, lid, cooking grids, control panel:
Clean these elements from time to time using a sponge
with washing up liquid. Do not use abrasive products.
After having cleaned and dried the grilles, brush them
lightly with grease to protect them from corrosion.
m) Storage
- Close the gas cylinder valve after use.
- If you store your barbecue indoors, disconnect the gas
cylinder and store the cylinder outdoors.
- If you store your barbecue outdoors, it is
recommended that a protective cover be used.
- When not used for a long period of time, it is
recommended that the barbecue be stored in a dry,
sheltered place (eg: garage). Store the lava rocks in
a dry place.
n) Lava rock
- The lava rock should be replaced when it becomes
heavily coated in grease or when eroded so that it falls
through the lower grid. This will only happen after it has
been used many times.
Spread the lava rock evenly in a single
layer. Do not pile the rock up and leave
a few millimetres between each rock to
allow air to pass through.
Do not use charcoal in place or in addition to the
lava rock provided.
- Keep the lava rock dry. Do not use wet or damp lava
rock, first allow it to dry in a sheltered area.
o) Replacement parts:
Replacement parts should only be obtained from
Homebase or Campingaz. Homebase and
Campingaz accept no responsibility for any
damage or malfunction due to the use of
replacement parts from other brands.
