Monogramming and Embroidering

Preparing for monogramming and embroidering
1. Place the darning plate on the needle plate.
2. Draw the lettering (for monogramming) or design (for embroider-
ing) on the surface of the fabric with delible ink or tailors chalk.
3. Stretch the fabric in an embroidery hoop as firmly as possible with
the underside of the fabric on the bottom of the inside hoop.
4. Place the work under the needle and lower the presser bar with the
foot removed.
5. Pull the lower thread up through the work at the starting position
by turning the balance wheel and make a few stitches to hold the
end of the thread.
6. Grip the hoop with the thumb and forefingers of both hands while
pressing the fabric with the middle and third fingers and supporting
the outside of the hoop with your smaller fingers.
Monogramming
1. Sew moving the hoop slowly along the lettering at a constant speed.
2. Secure with a few straight stitches at the end of the last letter.
Embroidering
1. Stitch the outline of the design by moving the embroidery hoop.
2. Fill in the design alternately from the outline of the design to the
inside and from the inside to the edge of the outline until the de-
sign is completely filled in. Keep the stitching close together.
NOTE:
A long stitch is made by moving the embroidery hoop rapidly and a
short stitch is made by moving it slowly.
3. Secure with a few straight stitches at the end of the design.
CAUTION:
Keep fingers away from moving parts, especially needles.

Préparation avant de faire des monogrammes et broderies
1. Placer la plaque à repriser sur la plaque à aiguille.
2. Tracer les lettres (du monogramme) ou le motif (de la broderie) sur
le tissu avec de lencre délébile ou de la craie de tailleur.
3. Tendre le plus possible le tissu sur un tambour de broderie, len-
vers du tissu situé au fond du tambour.
4. Placer louvrage sous laiguille et abaisser la barre, le pied-de-bi-
che ayant été retiré.
5. Tirer le fil inférieur vers le haut à travers louvrage à la position de
départ en tournant le volant et faire quelques points de maintien.
6. Saisir le tambour avec le pouce et les index des deux mains tout en
appuyant sur le tissu avec les majeusr et les annulaires et en tenant
lextérieur du tambour avec les auriculaires.
Monogrammes
1. Coudre, en déplaçant lentement le tambour, le long des lettres tout
en maintenant une vitesse constante.
2. Faire quelques points droits de renfort à la fin de la dernière lettre.
Broderies
1. Piquer la ligne extérieure du motif en déplaçant le tambour.
2. Coudre lintérieur du motif en allant de lextérieur vers lintérieur
puis de lintérieur vers lextérieur en alternance jusqu’à ce que le
motif soit terminé. Les points doivent être rapprochés.
REMARQUE:
Pour obtenir un long point, déplacer le tambour rapidement, pour un
point court, le déplacer lentement.
3. Faire quelques points de renfort lorsque le motif est terminé.
PRECAUTION:
Tenir les doigts à l’écart de tout élément mobile, en particulier les
aiguilles.
