A pressão arterial medida num consultório de um médico
indica apenas um valor momentâneo. Medições sucessivas
tomadas em casa reflectem melhor os valores reais da
pressão arterial de um indivíduo.
Muitas pessoas podem ter uma pressão arterial diferente
quando medida em casa, porque tendem a estar mais
descontraídas do que num consultório médico.
Medições regulares de pressão arterial tomadas em casa
podem proporcionar ao seu médico informação valiosa
sobre os seus valores reais de «todos os dias».
A Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) estabeleceu os
seguintes valores standard de pressão arterial, quando
medidos em estado de pulsação em descanso.
