Changing the Tool
uWear protective gloves when changing tools. The drill
chuck may heat up significantly when it is used for long
periods.
Keyed chuck with automatic lock (see figure B)
Open the keyed chuck (1) by turning it until the tool can be
inserted.
Insert the tool. Insert the drill chuck key (9) into the corres-
ponding holes of the keyed chuck (1) and clamp the tool
evenly.
Changing the drill chuck (see figure C)
uPull the plug out of the socket before carrying out any
work on the power tool.
Removing the securing screw
A securing screw (10) protects the keyed chuck (1) from be-
ing accidentally separated from the drill spindle.
Open the keyed chuck (1) fully and unscrew the securing
screw (10) clockwise. Note that the securing screw has a
left-hand thread.
When the securing screw (10) is securely seated, place a
screwdriver on the screw head and undo the securing screw
by hitting the handle of the screwdriver.
Removing the drill chuck
To remove the drill chuck (1), place an open-ended spanner
(SW 17) onto the nut on the drive spindle.
Hold the keyed chuck firmly in one hand and use your other
hand to turn the open-ended spanner anticlockwise until the
drill chuck comes away from the drill spindle cone.
Installing the drill chuck
uKeep the cone of the drill spindle and the hole of the
drill chuck free of grease and dirt.
To install the keyed chuck (1), turn the nut on the drive
spindle clockwise as far as it will go.
Push the keyed chuck onto the drive spindle until it is se-
curely seated, but do not use force when doing so.
Use a rubber hammer to lightly hit the front side of the keyed
chuck (1) in order to ensure that the keyed chuck is securely
seated. When doing so, ensure that the clamping jaws of the
keyed chuck do not protrude to avoid damaging the chuck.
Installing the securing screw
Screw the securing screw (10) anticlockwise into the open
keyed chuck. Always use a new securing screw because a se-
curing adhesive substance is applied on its thread and is
rendered ineffective after repeated use.
Dust/Chip Extraction
Dust from materials such as lead-containing coatings, some
wood types, minerals and metal can be harmful to one’s
health. Touching or breathing-in the dust can cause allergic
reactions and/or lead to respiratory infections of the user or
bystanders.
Certain dust, such as oak or beech dust, is considered carci-
nogenic, especially in connection with wood-treatment ad-
ditives (chromate, wood preservative). Materials containing
asbestos may only be worked by specialists.
Provide for good ventilation of the working place.
It is recommended to wear a P2 filter-class respirator.
Observe the relevant regulations in your country for the ma-
terials to be worked.
uAvoid dust accumulation at the workplace. Dust can
easily ignite.
Operation
Starting Operation
uPay attention to the mains voltage. The voltage of the
power source must match the voltage specified on the
rating plate of the power tool. Power tools marked
with 230V can also be operated with 220V.
uProducts that are only sold in AUS and NZ: Use a resid-
ual current device (RCD) with a nominal residual current
of 30 mA or less.
Setting the rotational direction (see figureD)
The rotational direction switch (7) is used to change the ro-
tational direction of the power tool. However, this is not pos-
sible while the on/off switch (6) is being pressed.
Right rotation: For drilling or stirring, push the rotational
direction switch (7) all the way to the left.
Left rotation: For loosening or stirring, push the rotational
direction switch (7) all the way to the right.
Switching on/off
To start the power tool, press and hold the on/off switch
(6).
Press the lock-on button (5) to lock the on/off switch (6) in
this position.
To switch off the power tool, release the on/off switch (6);
or, if the switch is locked with the lock-on button (5), briefly
press the on/off switch (6) and then release it.
Adjusting the speed
You can adjust the speed of the power tool when it is on by
pressing in the on/off switch (6) to varying extents.
A light pressure on the on/off switch (6) results in a low rota-
tional speed. Increased pressure on the switch causes an in-
crease in speed.
Work instructions for drilling
Use a drill emulsion or cutting oil for cooling and lubrication
in order to prevent the drill bit from overheating or jamming.
For drilling diameters >10 mm, pre-drill with a small drilling
diameter. This allows you to reduce the contact pressure
and puts less strain on the power tool.
When drilling into metal, only use sharpened HSS drills (HSS
= high-speed steel) which are in perfect condition. The
Bosch accessory range guarantees appropriate quality.
