Battery storage, disposal
The battery is protected by "Electronic Cell Protection" (ECP) against deep discharge,
overcharge, short circuit and overheating. At risk (short cut etc.), the battery is switched off by
means of a protective circuit, automatically. For the battery life time at least 500 full charge
cycles are guaranteed.
The battery life time can be extended, if the battery is well preserved and stored, especially
with constant and moderate temperatures. But even with good care, the capacity of the battery
will decrease over the years of life time. A significantly reduced working period of a fully
charged battery indicates a reduced capacity. Levels below 70% of the initial rated battery
capacity are a problem for the high-power demanding e-Drive system, so the battery should be
replaced. Your local ave. dealer can help you to determine the actual battery status by reading
out its operating parameters and clarify your warranty status for substitution.
Battery recharge during storage
Charge the battery before a longer period of disuse, on to about 60% of capacity. This refers to
a charge indicator state of 3 to 4 illuminated LEDs.
Check at least once within 6 months (e.g. in winter time) the charge status again. If e.g. only
one LED illuminates, then charge the battery again on to 60%. At the end, don’t forget to
disconnect the battery from the charger and the charger from the power line.
The battery should not be left permanently connected to charger and power line. The units are
not designed for continuous operations. The latter involves the risks, that voltage variations or
overvoltage from lightning strikes, could damage the charger and battery electronics.
Note: A stored battery should not be left ‘empty’ for a longer period. Despite a low self-
discharge, the Lithium cells could exceed their minimum voltage limit and then lose capacity or
be damaged internally.
Storage conditions
Keep the battery in a dry and ventilated place. Protect it from moisture, water, and
unauthorized access by third parties. In adverse weather conditions, it is recommended to take
the battery off the bike and keep it in an appropriate area, until the next ride. The battery can
withstand temperatures of -10 ° C to +60 ° C, but for good storage and long life, a constant
ambient temperature of ~ 20 ° C is advantageous.
Also take into account possible changes in the battery storage place, such as a strong sunlight
through a window or the closeness to a heater in winter, which can affect the battery
conditions.
Transport
The batteries are subject to the requirements of the dangerous goods legislation. They meet all
international (UN) and national transportation and safety (UL) regulations. Therefore they can
be used safely on the vehicle and being transported in appropriate way by the user. However,
battery shipping from business-to-business (e.g. dealer to service, manufacturer to importer) is
