The performance of your system can be enhanced by
organizing separate amplification for the low and high
frequency drive units in each loudspeaker enclosure. This
is called ‘bi-amping’.
Important – before you start
1. Do not make any connections to your Solo Movie
2.1 while it is switched on or connected to the
mains supply.
2. After connecting the loudspeakers, but before
switching on Solo Movie 2.1, please check all
connections thoroughly. Make sure bare wires
or cables are not touching the unit in the wrong
places (which could cause short circuits) and that
you have connected positive (+) to positive and
negative () to negative.
3. If your speakers are bi-wirable (i.e. they have
positive and negative terminals for both
high frequency (HF) and low frequency (LF)
information), ensure that the links between
the HF and LF terminals are removed.
Using an external power-amplifier
to bi-amp your front speakers
To bi-amplify the front left and right channels, a two-
channel amplifier such as the Arcam P90 is required (as
shown on the adjacent diagram).
Connect the pre-amplifier outputs of the Solo Movie 2.1
to the line inputs of the power amplifier.
WARNING: You must remove any terminal links
on your speaker before connecting an amplifier or you
may damage your Solo Movie 2.1. Such damage is not
covered under warranty.
Now connect the
HF terminal of your speaker to the
correct speaker terminal of the Solo Movie 2.1 (the Solo
Movie 2.1 amplification circuits will be used to provide
the high-frequency signals); connect the LF terminal of
your speaker to the correct speaker terminal of the
power amplifier (the power amplifier will be used to
provide the low-frequency signals).
Ensure that in all cases, the positive terminals on the
speakers are connected to the positive (red) terminals
on the amplifier, and similarly for the negative (black)
terminals.
