9. Transport and storage
9.1 Using the wheelchair as a vehicle seat
The viamobil V25 is an add-on drive, which can be attached to a large number of different wheelchair models.
The viamobil has been successfully crash tested with a series of different wheelchair types as per ISO 7176-19 for transportation in a
vehicle (bus, van, ...). These tests showed that in the event of an accident, the viamobil does not endanger the occupants of the vehi-
cle during such tests.
In these exemplary tests, it was also possible to show that the viamobil does not endanger the wheelchair users if the combination via-
mobil and wheelchair is used together with appropriately tested safety devices such as a three or four points restraint system.
For transportation in a vehicle, the viamobil needs to be combined with a wheelchair that meets the requirements of ISO 7176-19 in
order to function as a car seat. A wheelchair that meets the requirements of ISO 7176-19 has appropriately marked hooks, so-called tie-
down adapters, which are always to be used in combination with suitable restraint systems for securing the wheelchair.
The battery must be removed and secured separately. If in doubt, contact should be made with the specialist dealer or the manufacturer
of the wheelchair. Due to the many influencing factors and constraints described above, the decision to sit in a wheelchair with the
viamobil attached during the trip is always made following consultation between the wheelchair user and the driver of the vehicle. In
case of doubt or impossibility, note that the viamobil can be easily removed and should also be disconnected from the wheelchair and
secured separately to be safe in all circumstances. In the event of any uncertainty, the specialist dealer and/or the manufacturer of
the wheelchair should also be consulted. If such doubts cannot be dispelled, we recommend transferring the wheelchair user to the car
seat.
9.2 Safety note regarding transport of the viamobil
While the viamobil can remain attached to the wheelchair during transport, its battery pack must be removed. Control unit and battery
pack must not remain connected during transport.
When removing the viamobil from the wheelchair, make sure to secure the device and all of its components (battery pack, control unit,
additional push handles, and anti-tippers) in such a way during transport inside a vehicle that they do not pose a risk to the driver or
the passengers in the event of a sudden brake manoeuvre. To secure the viamobil in the car, we recommend tying the individual compo-
nents with suitable straps to the vehicle. Please note that it is the responsibility of the owner to ensure that all components are prop-
erly secured and that Alber GmbH shall not be held liable for any damage caused by unsecured parts. The individual components of the
viamobil must never be stored unless they are properly secured!
Please check whether there are specific regulations regarding the transport of the viamobil or its components in your jurisdiction and
strictly adhere to these regulations.
Accidents of any kind and their resulting consequences as well as damage to the wheelchair or the viamobil that
resulted from non-compliance with these instructions
occurred due to non-compliance with the laws and regulations in the country of use
and can be attributed to the use of impermissible or unsuitable safety systems
shall not be deemed as situations for which Alber GmbH and their agents are liable.
