Add audio to a timeline
You can place audio files on separate tracks, or you can place multiple audio files on the same track. Although an
audio clip initially snaps to the beginning of the track, you can subsequently reposition it or trim it if necessary. The
Track Selector to the left of the track name lets you activate a track so that you can control which track you hear when
playing the timeline.
1 Import the audio clips as assets in the Project panel.
2 Use any of these methods to add audio clips to a timeline:
To create a new timeline that includes the audio clip, select an audio clip in the Project panel, and choose
Timeline > New Timeline.
To add an audio clip to a new audio track in an existing timeline, drag the audio clip from the Project panel to the
timeline, justbelowthevideotrackorthelastaudiotrack. (To add a blank audio track, select the Timeline Viewer
and choose Timeline > Add Audio Track.)
To add an audio clip to an existing track in the timeline, drag the clip from the Project panel into the track until
the pointer changes to a “+” and then release the clip. Adobe Encore CS3 adds the clip to the right of the last clip
in the track.
3 If you are adding audio in different languages, choose the appropriate language code from the Language menu on
the left side of the track in the Timeline Viewer.
4 Add as many audio tracks as necessary (as many as eight per timeline). You can add multiple audio clips to a single
track, or you can add them to separate tracks.
Note: If you are adding multiple audio tracks to several timelines, make sure that you put similar audio on the same
track number in each timeline. For example, put all director’s commentary on track #1 for every timeline. (See “Keeping
track of tracks” on page 149.)

Set audio and subtitle preferences
You can determine the number of audio and subtitle tracks that appear by default when you create a timeline. You
can also determine the default language and duration of subtitle clips.
1 Choose Edit > Preferences > Timelines (Windows) or Encore > Preferences > Timelines (Mac OS).
