Replacing an inner tube

We recommend that you always carry a spare inner tube with you when you ride your bike. Spot repairs can pass as an emergency solution, but a bad repair or too

many repairs can destroy your inner tube, causing you to lose control and fall.

Remove the wheels from your bike. If

you have problems with this, see the

Wheels section in this manual. Let all the

air out of the inner tube. Then push two

tyre levers between the wheel rim and

the tyre to pull the tyre off the rim

before removing the inner tube from

the tyre.

Pump just enough air into the new inner

tube to give it some shape and insert it

into the tyre.

Before putting the tyre back onto the rim,

ensure that the valve has been fitted

through the hole in the rim.

Always check that the rim tape is

uniformly placed around the rim and look

for damage to the rim.

Fit the tyre on one side at a time,

otherwise it will be too tight Once the tyre

is almost all the way on, you can use your

tyre levers to position it correctly.

Don’t forget to inflate the tyres to the

recommended pressure.

Note: Do not use screwdrivers instead

of tyre levers, as sharp edges could

damage the rim. However, you can use

the handles of tablespoons as long as

they do not have sharp edges.
