Charge time monitoring
At the charge programs for a stand-alone application, the duration of the charge process
is monitored. Is the duration of the boost phase and equalizing phase more than 14
hours, then the charging process will be stopped. This way it can be prevented a broken
battery will be charged continuously. But with this feature it also can become clear that
the charge current isn’t in the correct proportion to the battery capacity (the battery can
become damaged when the charge process takes too long).
Input voltage
The input of the charger is protected by means of a fuse. This fuse is built in internally to
ensure the splash waterthigtness. Consult the problem solver to determine whether the
fuse is defective.
Current limitation
The charger incorporates a current limitation feature. This limit is set to 110% of the
maximum charging current.
Temperature
If the internal temperature becomes to high, the charger shuts down automatically. This
thermal stop is indicated by an error indication. When the charger has cooled down it will
continue the charging process. How the temperature protective devices operate will
depend strongly on the ambient temperature.
Level of protection
The indication for the degree of protection contains the character ‘IP’ (International
Protection) followed by two or three digits that stipulates the conditions that it complies
with. The first digit refers to the class of protection for density, the second digit to the
fluid density and the last digit refers to the impact resistance. The TBC 600 can be
assigned IP 647, which means:
6 = the charger is protected against dust.
4 = the charger is protected against spraying of water from all directions.
7 = the charger can bear a n impact force of 6.00 Joule (6Nm) max.
Important
It is important that the plastic coating of the front panel doesn’t get damaged,
because otherwise the charger will not be waterproof anymore. The cost for this
repair is not covered by warranty.
SE TT ING THE C H ARG ING PR OG R AM
The charging program can be set by pressing the mode’ pushbutton on the front of the
charger. Set the TBC 600 to the correct program before mounting the case. The battery
may be connected already but this is not a requirement.
The set up of the charger consists out of three phases.
First the application needs to be determined; ‘on-board’ use or ‘stand-alone’ use.
In the second step the type of battery is determined.
As last step the determination whether a temperature sensor is present needs to be
made.
The combination of these three adjustments determines the charging program.
