Using the wallpaper stripper (fig. F, G, H, I)
Check the state of your plaster before you start
work as high temperature steam can loosen
weak, porous or poorly bonded plaster. Plaster
is also loosened more read¬ily in areas of
cracks, holes or if the steam plate is held in one
position for too long.
You may be able to detect if you have weak
plaster by tapping a few areas of the walls with
your knuckles. If this produces a hollow sound,
we recommend proceeding only with extreme
care.
In all cases test out the wallpaper stripper on
a small area, about 100 cm2 , before starting
work properly.
To achieve fastest paper removal always
gently score the areas to be stripped. (Fig. I)
With heavily embossed, vinyl coated or
painter papers this is essential. Either use
a proprietary perforator tool or alternatively
score the paper with the of a wall scraper in
a criss-cross pattern with 150mm (6 inch)
spacing.
As with all decorating work be sure to protect
carpets and furniture with covers.
If at any stage finishing plaster is loosened or
you hear a crack, do not continue. The wallp-
aper stripper is safe for drywall/plaster board
surfaces.
Due to the heat generated by this product, it
is possible that certain surfaces for example
carpets, soft furniture, table tops, cabinets
etc., could be marked or damaged. To prevent
this, ensure a wooden board or other barrier is
placed under the boiler to prevent the heat da-
maging the surface. Dust sheets or newspapers
are not adequate for this purpose.
For best results, remove wallpaper with a
scraper. Scrape off wallpaper in a downward
direction (fig. G).
Always wear protection when removing wallpa-
per from the ceiling. Be careful of condensation
collecting in the steam plate as hot water may
drip. Empty the steam plate regularly and never
use directly above your head.
Always place the steam plate (6) in a suitable
container when left unattended, even for a few
seconds, and keep the steam plate facing away
from you when in use (fig. H).
Storage
Allow the appliance to cool for at least 10 minu-
tes.
Before storing, ensure that all water has been
emptied from the water tank and dry it with a
cloth.
Store the appliance upright in a dry place.
Safety cut out
A safety cut out is fitted to prevent overheating
the element if the water level is low. If unit stops
boiling during use this may be the cause. Wait for 2
minutes before removing the filling cap then re-fill
with clean tap water. The cut-out will self-reset and
steam be produced again within 5-25 minutes.
The cut-out will not protect the element if a partly
filled unit is tilted during use in a way which ena-
bles part of the element to be out of the water for
longer than 15-20 seconds.
5. MAINTENANCE
Warning! Before performing any maintenan-
ce, switch off and unplug the appliance and
allow it to cool. Occasionally rinse the boiler
with tap water until it runs clear.
Do not use chemical additives.
This appliance/tool has been designed to operate
over a long period of time with a minimum of main-
tenance. Continuous satisfactory operation de-
pends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Unit fails to boil
The unit had probably not been left for long enough
to cool- refer to section on safety cut out. Check
the fuse in the plug is sound and rated at 13 amps.
If using an extension cord check that it is rated at a
minimum of 10 amps and fully unwound.
Unit leaks steam from pressure relief valve
The pressure relief valve is a special low pressure
valve and cannot be replaced by any other valve. If
steam is leaking form the valve, the most likely cau-
se is a blockage in the hose. Allow the hose to cool
then remove the hose and check for any blockage.
Always check the inlet in the tool you are using.
