The appliance is only intended to be installed and
operated in sealed unvented heating systems that
comply with EN 12828, with due attention paid to the
associated installation, service and operating instruc-
tions.
Depending on the version, the appliance can only be
used for the following purposes:
Central heating
Central cooling
DHW heating
The range of functions can be extended with additional
components and accessories.
Intended use presupposes that a fixed installation in
conjunction with permissible, system-specific compo-
nents has been carried out.
Commercial or industrial usage for a purpose other
than central heating/cooling or DHW heating shall be
deemed inappropriate.
Incorrect usage or operation of the appliance (e.g. the
appliance being opened by the system user) is prohibi-
ted and will result in an exclusion of liability. Incorrect
usage also occurs if the components in the heating
system are modified from their intended function.
Note
The appliance is intended exclusively for domestic or
semi-domestic use, i.e. even users who have not had
any instruction are able to operate the appliance
safely.

Design and function
Design
Your air source heat pump consists of an indoor unit,
plus an outdoor unit that is installed outside the build-
ing.
Heat generation
The fan in the outdoor unit draws ambient air in
through a heat exchanger (evaporator). In the evapo-
rator, the thermal energy from this ambient air is trans-
ferred to the refrigerant circuit. Here, the temperatures
required for room heating and DHW heating are gener-
ated.
The heat passes to the indoor unit via the hydraulic
connection lines and from there into your heating sys-
tem.
Room cooling
To provide room cooling, the heat pump's refrigerant
circuit operates in reverse mode. Heat is extracted
from your rooms and transferred to the ambient air out-
side by the evaporator.
Energy supply
The refrigerant circuit is driven electrically via a com-
pressor. Compared with the thermal energy extracted
from the air, this compressor requires only a small
amount of electrical power. This power is often provi-
ded at a favourable tariff by your power supply utility.
Depending on the tariff conditions and the power sup-
ply, your power supply utility may make short-term
interruptions to the heat pump power supply (power-
OFF), e.g. if there is high network load. During a
power-OFF period, another heat source takes respon-
sibility for supplying heat to the building.
Additional heat sources
Your heat pump can control the following additional
heat sources and switch them on if necessary:
Instantaneous heating water heater in the indoor unit
(factory-fitted)
External heat generator, e.g. an existing gas boiler
Another heat pump in a heat pump cascade, if avail-
able
The conditions under which the individual heat sources
are switched on will depend on the operating condi-
tions of your heating system. Efficient operation of the
heat pump always takes priority here. If the heat pump
is not ready for operation, the heat source that is cur-
rently the most energy efficient will always be switched
on.
Heat pump cascade
A heat pump cascade consists of two linked heat
pumps that are switched on individually or together,
depending on the demand for heat or cooling. One of
the heat pumps takes the role of lead heat pump and
controls the entire heat pump cascade.
