3.2 ¿Por qué debo controlar mi batería?
Las baterías se utilizan en una gran variedad de aplicaciones, en general
para almacenar energía para su uso posterior. Pero ¿cuánta energía hay
almacenada en la batería? Nadie puede saberlo con sólo mirarla.
La vida útil de las baterías depende de muchos factores. La vida útil de
las baterías puede verse acortada por exceso o defecto de carga,
descargas demasiado profundas, corrientes de carga o descarga
excesivas y altas temperaturas ambientales. Al controlar la batería con un
monitor de batería avanzado, el usuario recibirá información muy
importante que le permitirá remediar posibles problemas cuando sea
necesario. Así, ayudándole a ampliar la vida útil de la batería, el BMV se
amortiza rápidamente.
3.3 ¿Cómo funciona el BMV?
La función principal del BMV es la de controlar e indicar el estado de
carga de la batería, en particular para evitar su descarga total de forma
imprevista.
El BMV mide continuamente el flujo de corriente que entra o sale de la
batería, La integración de esta corriente durante un tiempo (que, si la
corriente es una cantidad fija de amperios, se reduce a multiplicar la
corriente por el tiempo) nos dará la cantidad neta de Ah añadidos o
retirados.
Por ejemplo: una corriente de descarga de 10A durante 2 horas
consumirá 10 x 2 = 20Ah de la batería.
Para complicar las cosas, la capacidad efectiva de una batería depende
del ritmo de descarga y, en menor medida, de la temperatura.
Y para complicar aún más las cosas, al cargar una batería se necesita
"bombear" más Ah en la misma, que pueden ser recuperados durante la
siguiente descarga. En otras palabras: la eficiencia de la carga es inferior
al 100%.
