In order to comply with the CE guidelines it is recom-
mended that short shielded or twisted battery wires are
used.
Fuse
Include a strip fuse in the wire from the positive battery terminal
to the inverter. Vetus supplies suitable fuses. See ‘8 Wire choice
table’; the fuse value is also given in this table.
Care!
Make sure the polarity is correct when connecting the inverter
to the battery!
The strip fuse will burn out if the positive and negative terminals
of the battery are connected wrongly.
First connect the positive wire (red) to the positive terminal of
the inverter and then connect the negative wire (black) to the
negative terminal of the inverter.
A spark can jump while making the last connection to the
battery. This is normal.

4.4 Connection to main power supply
Connect the output from the inverter to the 230 V on-board net-
work. See ‘11 Wiring diagrams’.
Warning!
Never connect the output from the inverter (230 V) directly to the
shore power supply (230 V) or to the output of a generator set
(230 V)! The result will otherwise be irreparable damage.
The shore power supply connection and the generator set can
be connected in a responsible manner to the inverter by mak-
ing use of a Vetus automatic switching appliance art. code IVP.
After the generator has been started (manually) switching over
is delayed, so that the generator will not be loaded immediately.
If the voltage provided by the generator set or from the shore
power supply lies outside of the permitted tolerances switching
over will not take place.
If the generator or shore power supply fails the automatic switch-
ing appliance ensures that the inverter takes over the power
supply (as far as the power capacity of the inverter and battery
allows).
See ‘11 Wiring diagrams’.
In order to comply with the CE guidelines it is recom-
mended that the inverter is earthed.
The input (for the shore power supply) must be earthed on the
side of the shore power supply.
Care!
There is no connection in the inverter between the phase or zero
of the output connections to earth!
The output must be earthed at the same earthing point as is
used for the loads. Never use the inverter without an earth con-
nection having been made.
Warning!
Earthing 230 Volt electrical equipment on board a ship that is
not connected with an earth leakage protected shore socket by
a shore connection only has any point if the ship has an earth
leakage protection or system insulation protection installation on
board (floating network).
Consult your supplier about this.
The local regulations are also of importance here that vary from
country to country and the application of these can be of impor-
tance (special regulations often apply for commercial shipping
and in particular for passenger ships).
Vetus cannot accept any responsibility for the use of the inverter
when in conflict with local regulations.
Switch the inverter on again after connecting the on-board
network. The Inverter must now supply power to the on-board
network.
If necessary check the output voltage using a digital multim-
eter.
4.5 Remote control panel
See ‘10 connection drawings’ for how to connect an optional
remote control panel.
The 6-pole RJ12 terminal is to be used for the connection to the
remote control panel.
