GPS status and quality
When you switch on the device for the first time, it may take several minutes for the GPS
reception to reach a sufficient level and to determine your current position. If you are unable
to obtain a sufficient GPS signal, please read the "Troubleshooting" chapter for suggestions
on solving the problem.
The GPS aerial is located below the top side of the device. For this reason, try to hold
the navigation device in an upright position for the best possible GPS reception.
If you are using the navigation system in an inner-city area, it may take longer to re-
fresh the map items on screen. This is due to the large number of roads and additional
information (e.g. hotels, restaurants) as well as the high density of buildings. Further-
more it may take longer to establish the GPS reception if you have just driven out of
an underground car park or another type of building where GPS signals are blocked.
The GPS reception can be checked by doing the following
Check the GPS status in the status bar.
If the status bar does not show the GPS status: Tap
on a status bar element and select GPS status from
the list.
The number of tracked GPS satellites is shown. The
quality of the GPS signal is indicated by the shape
and colour of the tick:
Red No reception
Yellow Initialising or insufficient signal quality,
fewer than 3 satellites have been found
Yellow Sufficient signal quality, but not very accurate position
Green Good signal quality, precise position, guidance possible
