To lock the bonnet in the open position,
insert the rod lying across the radiator into
the small slot on the b onnet underside.
Press rod firm ly into its holder before
closing.
Lower the bonnet and allow it to drop into
its catch.
Check that the bonnet is locked in position
by pulling at its front edge. If it is not
engaged, repeat the proc edure.
Starting
Do not start with quick charger
This prevents damage to electronic
components.
D o n ot s tar t by push in g or towing
Because your vehicle is fitted with a
catalytic converter, it must not be started
by pushing or towing – see p age 146.
Vehicle with the Open&Start system 3 must
not be started by pushing or towing if the
battery is discharged, since the steering
column lock cannot be released.
The vehicle can only be started using jump
leads, see following section.
Starting the engine with jump
leads 3
A vehicle with a discharged battery can be
started using jump leads and the battery of
another vehicle.
Attempts to start the vehicle should be
made at intervals of one minute and
should not last longer than 15 seconds
z Never expose the battery to naked
fla mes or sparks.

temperatures of 0 °C. Defrost the frozen
battery in a warm room before
conne cting jum p le ads.
z Do not allow battery fluid to come into
contac t with eyes, skin, fabrics or
painted surfaces. The fluid contains
sulphuric acid which ca n cause injuries
and damage in the event of direct
contact.
z Wear eye protection and protective
clothing when handling a battery.
z Use auxiliary battery with same volta ge
(12 volts). Its capacity (Ah) must not
be considerably less than that of the
discharged ba ttery. Voltage and
capacity information can be found
on the batteries.
9 Warning
Be extremely careful when starting with
jump leads. Any deviation from the
following instructions can lead to injuries
or damage caused by battery explosion
or damage to the electrical systems of
both vehicles.
