Anti-freeze and corrosion protection
Before the start of the cold weather season,
have the coolant checked by a workshop
for correct concentration. The amount of
anti-freeze must provide protection down
to approx.28 °C. If the anti-freeze
concentration is too low, this reduces
protection from freezing and corrosion.
Top up anti-freeze if necessary.
If coolant loss is topped up with
demineralised water, have anti-freeze
concentration checked and more
anti-freeze ad ded as necessary.

Coolant level
Hardly any losses occur since the cooling
system is sealed and it is thus rarely
necessary to top up the coolant.
The coolant level in the expansion tank
should be between the MIN and MA X
marks when the sy stem is cold. It rises at
engine operating temperature and drops
again when the engine cools down.
If the level falls below the MIN mark, the
coolant must be replenished.
Top up with a mix of 56% demineralised
wate r a nd 44% anti-fre ez e spe cified for use
with your vehicle.
Do not use tap water, alcohol or methanol
anti-freeze to top up coolant level.
In extrem ely cold conditions, use a mix of
50% anti-fre eze specified for use with your
vehicle and 50% demineralised water.
After topping up, have the anti-freeze
concentration checked and anti-freeze
added if necessary. Eliminate the cause of
the coolant loss. Consult a workshop.
When closing, tighten coolant filler ca p as
far as it will go.
9 Wa rnin g
Allow engine to cool down before
removing coolant filler cap. If steam is
visible, move away from the vehicle until
the engine is cool.
Remove filler cap carefully so that
pressure can escape slowly, otherwise
there is a risk of scalding.
