43 TREK ASSEMBLY MANUAL 27 April 2012
Special Assembly
Brake Hose and Ferrule
for Internal Routing
Some models use some new cable routing, and also a new method of attaching
hydraulic brake hose.
To attach brake hose to the frame
1. Correctly route the rear hydraulic brake hose.
2. Attach the rear brake caliper and lever.
3. Slide the hose clip over the brake hose, with the tapered end of the clip pointing
toward the hose guide on the frame (Figure 78).
4. Identify the centering rib on the plastic hose clip (Figure 79).
5. Align the rib on the hose clip with the gap in the frame guide, and slide the plastic
clip into the frame guide until the clip locks in place.
To route the rear derailleur cable
1. Install the cable through the lever and across the top tube in the normal fashion.
2. Slide the cable through the seat cluster housing that guides the cable as it exits
the rear top tube cable stop.
3. Install the oversize aluminum ferrule (Figure 80) onto the rear end of the seat
cluster housing.
4. Route the cable into the top of the “seat stay.”
5. Attach the other aluminum ferrule to the cable housing that connects to the rear
derailleur.
6. Finish the cable installation in the normal fashion.
