Setting the Scene Mode
By simply selecting one of the following 14 modes, you can capture the image
with most appropriate settings.
1. Slide the mode switch to [
] and set the mode dial to one of the scene modes.
In the [SCN] mode, you may select another scene mode:
a. Press the MENU button.
b. Select [Scene Select] with the S/T buttons, and press the SET button.
c. Press the S/T button to select the desired scene mode.
d. Press the SET button to confirm the selection.
e. To exit from the photography menu, press the MENU button.
When the camera mode is set to the [ ] or [ ], [ ] macro cannot be selected.
2. Compose the image, press the shutter button down halfway, then press it down fully.
The table below will help you choose the appropriate scene mode:
Scene mode Description
Select portrait mode when you want to capture an image
that makes the person stand out against a defocused
(blurred) background.
The flash setting is fixed at [
] which is effective in
reducing the red-eye phenomenon.
Select night scene mode when you want to capture dark
scenes such as night views.
The flash is fixed at [
].
This user setting mode allows you manually set the setting
parameters and all these settings will be memorized.
Select sports mode when you want to photograph fast-
moving subjects.
In this mode, the flash mode cannot be used.

] Text Select this mode when you want to capture an image that
contains black and white subjects like printed documents.

] Candlelight Select this mode when you want to capture photos of
candlelit scene, without spoiling the atmosphere.
[
] Sunrise Select this mode when you want to capture photos of sunrise
scene. This mode helps keep the deep hues in the scene.
[
] Sunset Select this mode when you want to capture photos of sunset
scene. This mode helps keep the deep hues in the scene.
[
] Splash Water Select this mode when you want to capture photos of
splashing water.
[
] Fireworks Select this mode when you want to capture fireworks
clearly with optimal exposure. The shutter speed becomes
slower, so using a tripod is recommended.
