TTTNING IN MOTION
DISCRIMINATE MODE
Using the detector
in
Motion discriminate is
simply amatterofsetting
the Disc lævel
control to
the desired
position.
The
detector
should not be
affected bymineralization, unless it is
quite
severe. Aslight improvement
in response may
be
noted
by
reducing the
Sensitivity Conûol
on the inside
ofthehousing.
NOTE: Be very
careful
not
to
get
any sand
or dirt
particles
on the
front
edge of the housing or
onto the O-ring
in the
panel.
Any
particles
in this seal
can cause the detector
to
leak when it is
submerged.
When
closing the housing,
operate
both drawbolts
atthe same t¡me, ratherthan
clamp-
ing one side, and then
the other. From time
to time,
you
should
apply a bit of
O-ring
grease
to the
panel
O-ring
seal.
TI.JNING IN TR DISCRIMINATE
MODE
The TR discriminate mode
will
probably
be unusable in
virtually all
land locations
duetomineralization levels. Itmay
bethe mostuseable
mode
on certain
salt water beaches
however, but
only
ifthe
discriminate
level
control
i
s set to neuûal
ize
the effects ofthe comb ined mi neral
ization and
conductive salt water. Thi s obviously means that
you
cannot
use the
Disc
lævel
control to eliminate anytash
items,
since
you
mustuse itto eliminate
mineraleffecs.
Itwill
probably
be bestto fy
using
the
Motion
discriminate
mode on
salt water beaches since
you
can use the entire range ofthe
Disc
Level
control
to el imi nate
some ofthe
more
prevalent
trash.
I . Tum the ON/OFF control to the fast
position,
and the discri
minate
Level control to about mid-ran
ge.
With the Mode
switch
in the TR Disc
position,
hold
the search coil abouttwo inches
abovethe
ground.
2. Rapidly raise the coil about
two or tlree inches. Ifraisin
g
the search
coil slightly makes the tlreshold sound increase
to
morimum,
the
mineral-
ization level will
probably
make
the
TR
discriminate mode very diffrcult to
use. You must be able to sweep the coil from
side to si de, and still
maintain
thethresholdsound. Attemptingto
operate
in
TRdiscriminate
in
heavily
mineralized
ground
will almost always
cause alarge decrease in depth.
3 . On a Salt
Water
beach, the discriminate level
control can be used
to essentially
ground
compensate the detector if it is
used
in
the
TR
discriminate mode.
It
will be best to
adj ust the disc
level
contol for a sl i
ght
increase in sound as the
search coil approaches the wet
salt beach.
SELECTING THE PROPER
OPERATING MODE
The TR
discriminate mode
will
probably
be unusable in most land
areas, due to the mineral ization
levels
encountered.
The TR
discrimin ate
mode
can be
quitepossiblythe
best choiceto use
on asaltwaterbeach
however,
because the Disc Level
control can be used
to
neutralize
the
conductive wet
salt sands. Also ifttre
Motion d iscriminate mode
gives
a I ot
offalse signals on
such a beach, the TR
probably
can be adj
usted to operate
quite
well
without all
ofthe
false
signals.
In
land hunting, it
will be best
to use either the ALL METAL
mode or
the
Motion
discriminate mode.
Either
ofthese
modes
will be mineral free,
