Playback picture is grainy after
recording, although original picture
was clear.
Picture is grainy during video cassette
playback, even with pre-recorded tapes.
• Sound is broken up and picture is grainy.

appear.
• Picture is broken up with noise and stripes.
Verticals at the top of the screen wave
about or are hooked. Maybe the
whole picture shakes rapidly sideways.
Checks
Symptom
There may be a temporary patch of poor picture quality where there is a
change from one recording to another, particularly if the recordings were
not assembled together using the pause function. Temporary video head
contamination and tape damage can also cause it.
Please press “TRACKING” for better picture. Videotape may be
poor. Try to change it to another one.
Please use a head-cleaner to clean VCR heads. VCR heads may
be contaminated.
Some televisions have a special channel for VCR use (0 or 9, or AV
channel); check the television instructions and check if the DVD-VCR
player is on this channel. Some televisions react adversely to some copy-
protected video recordings. Try a recording without Macrovision anti-
copy protection (ACP), or a different television.
Recording
Recording or timer recording does
not work.
For recording, you should use video cassette with a tab. Please
see ' What is the recording protection tab ?' on page 68
Check the VCR is switched to television recording by pressing the
[OUTPUT] button until the display shows 'PR ##' (programme
number).
Check it is the picture to be recorded by watching the
channel on the television that is assigned to the VCR.
Please check whether the timer recording info is right.
Check the display on your VCR shows “[clock symbol]” (ready
for timed recording).
Check the VCR was put on stand-by for the timer recording.

Is the aerial downlead connected to the 'ANT IN' terminal of the
VCR ?
