4 – Preparations
Recorder modes
This unit has four recorder modes.
MULTITRACK
Use to operate the unit as a multitrack recorder.
BOUNCE
Use to bounce tracks. (See “Bouncing tracks” on page 39.)
MIXDOWN
Use to mix down tracks to create a stereo master track. (See
“Mixing down tracks” on page 48 and “Creating a stereo
master track” on page 49.)
MASTERING
Use to play stereo master tracks that you have created and apply
effects to them (mastering). (See “Checking the stereo master
track” on page 51 and “Mastering the stereo master track” on
page 51.)
When the unit’s power is turned ON, it always starts up in
MULTITRACK
mode.
When in any mode besides
MULTITRACK
mode, many of the
usual operations using the screen are unavailable.
In this Owners Manual, the
MULTITRACK
mode is the
recorder mode explained unless otherwise noted.
Connecting other equipment
This section shows examples of connecting other equipment
with this unit.

Precautions before making connections
Turn the power of this unit and all devices that you will
connect with it OFF (or put them in standby power mode)
beforehand.
Supply power to all the devices from the same line. When
using a power strip, for example, use one with a cable that
has a high electric current capacity in order to minimize
power voltage variations.

CAUTION
Do not input signals into both the XLR and standard jacks at
the same time.
Do not connect a dynamic microphone using an unbalanced
connection when phantom power is ON. Doing so could
break it.
Do not connect or disconnect a mic when phantom power is
ON. This could cause a loud noise and damage equipment.
Turn the unit output volume down using the PHONES
knob and MASTER fader on the front panel before turning
phantom power ON or OFF. Depending on the mic, a loud
noise could occur, damaging equipment and harming
people’s hearing.
