Waarom toont mijn computer een kleinere vaste schijf dan de werkelijke
grootte, bijvoorbeeld 112 Gb in plaats van de opgegeven 120 Gb?
Oplossing: Dat komt door de verschillende eenheden die worden gebruikt om de
grootte te berekenen. De documenten van alle fabrikanten gebruiken eenheden
op basis van een tientallig stelsel. Daardoor komt 120 Gb overeen met 120
miljard bytes (oftewel 120 met 9 nullen). De computer rekent echter met
eenheden op basis van 1.024. 1 Gb is dan 1.024 * 1.024 * 1.024 bytes =
1.073.741.824 bytes. Voor een computer is 1 Gb dus iets meer dan 1 miljard
bytes. De conversie van het (decimale) 120 Gb luidt dan: (120 miljard) gedeeld
door (1.073.741.824) = ongeveer 112 GB op basis van 1.024 eenheden voor de
computer.
Hoe kan ik de exacte capaciteit van de vaste schijf bepalen?
Oplossing: Open Configuratiescherm en dubbelklik op Systeembeheer. Alle
systeemprogramma’s in deze map worden getoond. Open Computerbeheer.
Computerbeheer is een algemeen programma met een gedeelte genaamd
Opslag. Klik op het plusteken voor dit gedeelte en selecteer de suboptie
Schijfbeheer. Rechts in het venster worden alle bestaande opslagmedia getoond.
Schijf 0 vertegenwoordig de systeemschijf. De lijst toont ook de totale grootte en
de partities op elk medium, samen met de grootte van elke partitie.
Opmerking: momenteel is er meer dan één partitie vanwege de partities Herstel
en Stuurprogramma. Deze partities vormen het totaal van de grootte van de vaste
schijf.
