11 Telephone Answering Machine
All the telephone answering machine (TAM) functions can be operated via the handset and also
directly on the base station. The answering machine is equipped with a vocal operating guidance.
Please pay attention to the instructions and information.
11.1 TAM Settings menu
Proceed as follows to access the TAM settings menu:

11.2 Switching the answering machine on/off
Using the base station:
Switch the answering machine on/off
After switching the answering machine on, the outgoing message, heard by the caller, is played.
Using the handset in the TAM Settings menu:

11.3 Number of rings (answering delay)
You can select from 2 to 9 rings or choose the Tollsaver setting for the pre−remote access func-
tion. The pre−remote access function enables contacting the answering machine free of charge
to determine whether any new messages have been left.
S If your call is taken after 2 rings, there are messages on the answering machine.
S If no messages have been recorded, the call is taken after 6 rings. Replace the
receiver before the 6th ring. No charges accrue for the call.
Further information on remote access is provided in Chapter 11.10.
11.3.1 Setting the number of rings
Using the base station:
2 sec Activate Setting mode
Select the setting required
The setting selected is announced and saved.
Using the TAM Settings menu on the handset:

11.4 Acoustic signal for incoming messages
An acoustic signal indicates a new message or memo has been recorded.

11.5 Listening−in to incoming messages
You can listen−in to the caller without actually taking the call. If the answering machine has already
taken the call, you can take the call on the handset at any time simply by pressing the Call button
. Recording of the message is automatically stopped in this case.
