Hierbij letten op:
– De natuurlijke hoek waaronder de
boom staat
– Buitengewoon sterke takvorming,
asymmetrische groei, beschadigd
hout
– Windrichting en -snelheid – bij
sterke wind niet vellen
– Hellingrichting
– Naast staande bomen
– Sneeuwbelasting
– De conditie van de boom in acht
nemen – bijzonder voorzichtig te
werk gaan bij een beschadigde
stam of dood hout (dor, vermolmd of
dood hout)

B vluchtwegen
– Voor iedereen vluchtwegen
aanbrengen – ca. 45° schuin naar
achteren
– Eventuele takken of andere
obstakels die zich op de
vluchtwegen bevinden, verwijderen
– Gereedschap en apparaten op
veilige afstand neerleggen – maar
niet op de vluchtwegen
– Tijdens het vellen altijd aan de
zijkant van de stam staan en alleen
zijwaarts de vluchtweg in lopen
– Vluchtwegen op steile hellingen
evenwijdig aan de helling
aanbrengen
– Tijdens het teruglopen op vallende
takken letten en naar de kroon
kijken
Werkgebied bij de stam voorbereiden
– Storende takken, struikgewas en
obstakels uit het werkgebied
rondom de stam verwijderen –
veilige plek voor alle medewerkers
– De voet van de stam grondig
schoonmaken (bijv. met de bijl) –
zand, stenen en andere dan houten
voorwerpen zorgen ervoor dat de
zaagketting bot wordt
– Grote worteluitlopers inzagen: eerst
de grootste worteluitloper – eerst in
verticale richting, vervolgens in
horizontale richting – alleen bij
gezond hout
Valkerf aanbrengen
Met behulp van de vellijst op de kap en
het ventilatorhuis van de motorzaag kan
tijdens het zagen van de valkerf de
velrichting worden gecontroleerd.
Bij het aanbrengen van de valkerf de
motorzaag zo uitlijnen dat de vellijst
exact in de richting wijst waarin de boom
moet vallen.
Bij de volgorde van de horizontale en de
schuine zaagsnede zijn meerdere
mogelijkheden toegestaan – neem de
nationale voorschriften met betrekking
tot de veltechniek in acht.
