The factory-set twilight re-
sponse threshold of ap-
prox. 1 lux can be
changed as follows inside
the unit: At the ambient
light level you want the
light to come ON at,
press the button (see
drawing) with a ball-point
pen or similar object and
keep it pressed until the
LED indicator switches
ON and OFF again. Now
let the button go and the
ambient light level will be
sensed for approx. 10 sec.
(if necessary, the connect-
ed load will be switched
'OFF). From now on, the
light will switch ON under
these light conditions.
After connecting to the
mains power supply, the
load connected will light up
for approx. 8 seconds. Light
measurement will now be
activated.
Operation/Function
Twilight setting:
The light can be switched
'OFF' automatically at
night to save even more
electricity. Please use the
control dial inside the
housing for making the
setting which can be infi-
nitely varied. The unit
comes with a factory set-
ting that switches the light
'OFF' at approx. 1.30 a.m.
The electronic system
does not have a clock. All
times are computed by the
microprocessor on the ba-
sis of light levels at twilight.
Seasonal changes in light
levels are identified auto-
matically and taken into
account.
Night economy mode setting:
Examples of night economy mode:
The night economy mode
always ends in the early
hours of the morning
between approx. 4 and
5 p.m. After then, the light
switches 'ON' again auto-
matically when it gets dark
(factory setting).
This function can be
changed as follows:
Briefly press button until
the LED indicator lights up
and let button go. Now you
can choose between the
following settings:
LED indicator flashes
4 x = light switches ON
in the morning.
LED indicator flashes
2 x = light stays OFF in the
morning.
Setting for morning hours:
No night economy mode Mid-range night economy mode Long night economy mode
Installation Instructions
Dear Customer,
Many thanks for the trust
that you have shown in
purchasing your new
STEINEL NightMatic 3000
Vario. Please familiarise
yourself with these instruc-
tions before attempting to
install the unit. With hope
this high-quality product
brings you lasting satisfac-
tion.
The built-in photosensor
registers the ambient light
level and switches the con-
nected light ON in the
evening, OFF again in the
night economy mode
(when selected) and, if you
wish, ON again in the
early hours of the morning.
Wall mounting
Caution: Installation
means making connec-
tions to the mains power
supply.
230 V means danger to life!
Therefore, switch off the
power first and use a volt-
age tester to make sure the
wiring is off circuit.
Installation of the photo-
cell controller involves work
on the mains power sup-
ply; this means it must be
done properly in accor-
dance with VDE 100.
Please note that the photo-
cell controller must be
protected by a 10 A circuit
breaker. The mains sup-
ply lead must be no
greater than 10 mm in
diameter.
If you wish, the NightMatic
3000 Vario can be installed
directly next to the light.
A microprocessor distin-
guishes between ambient
and lamp light, ensuring
constant light measure-
ment.
For optimum performance
it is recommended to oper-
ate the system without a
switch.
Using a screwdriver, undo
the four housing screws by
turning them anti-clock-
wise and remove the hous-
ing cover. Hold the elec-
tronic system's housing
against the wall and mark
where to drill the holes,
paying attention to any
wiring already existing in
the wall, drill holes; insert
wall plugs.
When installing, make sure
the wires are fed in from
below wherever possible.
Before screwing on the
housing, pierce through the
condensation water holes
at the bottom.
Power
The unit has the following
marked terminals:
N = neutral conductor
terminals (2 x, usually
blue)
L = phase conductor termi-
nal (usually black,
brown or grey)
L' = terminal for the swit-
ched phase. If you are
in any doubt, identify
the conductors using
a voltage tester.
Connect the live conduc-
tor (L) and the neutral
conductor (N) to the ter-
minals provided for this
purpose. Connect the
load supply conductor
(light) to the second neu-
tral conductor terminal (N)
and phase (L').
Any green/yellow protec-
tive earth conductor must
be connected to the ter-
minal provided.

Important: Getting the ca-
ble connections crossed
will produce a short circuit
in the unit or in your fuse
box. In this case, you must
check the identification of
all cables and re-connect
them.
