Setup Menu Op tions
Pres s MENU to enter the setup menu.
T urn the control dial to select the desir ed
menu item or setting.
Pres s the dial to confirm the selection.

DAB Manual T une
If DAB r ecep tion by auto tune is poor , try
manual tuning.
1 T urn the contr ol dial to select the desire d
DAB channel, then pres s the dial.
T he radio starts scanning f or rec eivable
stations in the selecte d channel.
2 T urn the contr ol dial to select the station
you want to list en to, then pres s the dial.
Tip
T he new station rec eived by manual tuning is
store d in the DAB station list.
Signal Level
Displays the signal level of the DAB sta tion
you are list ening to, ranging fr om 0 (no signal)
to 100 (maximum signal).
FM T une Mode
Select the tuning mode for FM.
By Station List: Y ou can select a desir ed
station fr om the list of FM stations stor ed by
auto tune.
Manual T une: Y ou can manually tune to the
desired FM fr equency in 0.05 MHz st eps. T urn
the contr ol dial to select the fr equency .
Scan tuning in Manual T une mode
1 Pr ess AUT O TUNE (SCAN) to start
scanning FM stations.
•T o change the scanning direction, turn
the contr ol dial clockwise or
counter clockwise.
•When a sta tion is rec eived, scanning
pauses for 3 sec onds.
2 Pr ess the contr ol dial or AUTO TUNE t o
stop scanning if the desir ed frequency is
displayed.
Edit FM Sta tion List
Y ou can edit the FM station list.
Ge t FM Station Name: P er form this when
you want to r eceive RDS inf ormation such as
station names. Select “OK” t o start scanning
for RDS data.
Notes
• Set “FM T une Mode” to “By Station List” before
you perform this opera tion.
• T he currently stor ed RDS information will be
cleared onc e scanning has started .
• It may take a long time t o rec eive all the
available RDS data.
Delete FM S tation: Y ou can delete any
unwante d stations from the FM st ation list.
1 T urn the contr ol dial to select the station
you want to dele te, then pres s the dial.
2 T urn the contr ol dial to select “OK” , then
pres s the dial.
Add FM Station:
When list ening to a
manually tuned station, you can add the
station to the FM st ation list. Select “OK” to
add the station to the list.
Informa tion
Displays information f or the station you are
listening to . T urn the control dial t o scroll
through the f ollowing information:
Channel: Channel and frequency (Se e the
DAB fr equency table in “Specifications. ”)
Multiplex Name: Ensemble label (up t o
16charact erslong)
Service Name: Station name
PTY : PTY label (See “PTY (progr amme type)”
in “Specifications. ”)
Bit Rate: Bit r ate
Displays PTY label (see “PTY (programme
type)” in “Spe cifications”) for the sta tion you
are list ening to.
Note
If there is no ensemble label or no sta tion name,
the space for label or name will be blank.
Time
Set Time: “ Auto (DAB)” is set by default. T his
enables the clock to synchr onize with the DAB
data being r eceived . Select “Manual” to set
the clock manually using the contr ol dial.
12H/24H: Select the clock display mode,
12-hour clock or 24-hour clock.
Note
When the clock is set manuall y , the clock will be
reset if the A C adaptor is unplugged and the
batteries ar e removed for mor e than 1 minute.
Beep
Select “On” to activat e the beep sound when
you opera te the radio .
Light
On: T he backlight will be on all the time when
the radio is power ed by the AC adaptor . When
you use the radio on ba tteries, the backlight
will turn off automatic ally if no operation is
performed for 30 sec onds.
Auto: T he backlight will turn off automatically
if no opera tion is performed for 30 sec onds.
Initialize
Select “OK” to initialize the r adio to the factory
default settings. All settings, DAB and FM
station lists and pr esets will be deleted .

About RDS F eatur es
Wha t is RDS?
Introduc ed by the European Br oadcasting
Union (EBU) in 1987 , the Radio Data Syst em
(RDS) allows information such as sta tion
names to be r eceived via the 5 7 kHz sub-
carrier signal of FM br oadcasts. However , the
availability of RDS data v aries depending on
the area. It theref ore may not be alw ays be
possible to r eceive RDS inf ormation.
Using the RDS functions
T he radio supports the following RDS
functions.

Notes
• T he RDS functions will not be activated if the
FM station being r eceived is not tr ansmitting
RDS data. T hey may also not work properly in
areas wher e RDS transmissions ar e in the
experimental st age.
• If the radio signal being r eceived is weak, it
may take time t o rec eive the RDS data.
W ARNING

Do not install the applianc e in a confined space ,
such as a bookc ase or built-in cabine t.

As the main plug of AC adapt or is used to
disconnect the A C adaptor fr om the mains,
connect it t o an easily acces sible AC outlet.
Should you notice an abnormality in it,
disconnect it fr om the AC outlet imme diately .
T he unit is not disconnecte d from the AC power
sourc e (mains) as long as it is connected t o the
wall outlet, even if the unit itself has been turned
off.

headphones can cause hearing los s.
Batteries or batt eries installed appara tus shall
not be expose d to ex cessive hea t such as

In case of batt ery leakage
If the battery fluid has leaked , do not touch the
fluid with your bare hands.
Battery fluid may remain inside the unit. Consult
your nearest Sony dealer .
If battery liquid gets into your eyes, do not rub
your eyes, as blindness may occur . Quickl y wash
your eyes with plenty of clean water and
immediately se ek medical attention.
If battery liquid gets on your body or clothing,
burns or injury may occur . Quickly w ash off with
clean water , and seek medical attention if skin
inflammation or injuries occur .

Pr ecautions
• Opera te the unit only on the power sourc es
specified in “Specifications. ” For batt ery
opera tion, use three LR14 (siz e C) alkaline
batteries. For A C operation, use only the
supplied AC adap tor . Do no t use any other
type of AC adapt or .
• F ailure to use the supplied A C adaptor may
cause the unit to malfunction, as the polarity
of the plugs of other manufactur ers may be
differ ent.
• When oper ating the unit on batteries, it is
rec ommended that you remove the A C
adaptor fr om the wall outlet and the DC IN 5V
jack. Disconnect the plug of the external power
sourc e before oper ating the unit.
• Use the unit within a temper ature r ange of 0°C
to 40°C. If it is used in temper atures higher
than this range , the display may gradually turn
black. If it is used in temperatur es lower than
this range , the display may change very slowly .
(T hese irregularities will disappear and there
will be no damage to the unit when the unit is
used in the rec ommended temperatur e range
again.)
• When c onnecting headphones or an external
device to the unit, use headphones or an audio
connection c able with a stereo (3-pole) or
monaural (2-pole) mini plug. Sound may not
be heard when using other types of plugs.

unit, disconnect the AC adapt or and remove
the batteries, and have the unit checked by a
qualified personnel befor e operating it any

• Since a str ong magnet is used for the speak ers,
keep personal cr edit car ds using magnetic
coding or spring-wound wa tches away fr om
the unit to prevent pos sible damage from the
magnetism.
• T o clean the casing, use a soft dry cloth. Do no t
use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or
benzine, which may damage the finish.
• Do not oper ate the unit with wet hands sinc e it
may cause a short circuit.

T r oubleshooting
Should any problem persist aft er you have
made the following checks, consult your
nearest Sony dealer .
Display is dim, or no indication is
displayed.
• T he radio is being used in e xtremely high or
low temper atures or in a plac e with exc essive
moisture .
V ery weak or interrupted sound , or
unsatisf actory rec eption.
• If you are in a building, listen near a window .
• Extend the antenna and adjust the length and
the angle for best r eception.
• Replace all the batt eries with new ones if they
are e xhausted.
• If a mobile phone is placed close t o the radio, a
loud noise may be heard fr om the radio. Keep
the phone away fr om the radio.
Batteries ge t exhausted very quickly .
• Be sure to turn off the r adio when not using it.
T he estimated battery life is 20 – 23 hours.
See “Specifications” for details.
A desir ed station cannot be r eceived
when a pr eset button is pr essed.
• Make sur e you have selected the desir ed band
(DAB or FM) bef ore you pres s the preset
button. One station for each band can be se t
to each button.
• Y ou may have held down the prese t button to
which the station was pr eset, c ausing the
station to be r eplaced by a new one . Prese t the
desired sta tion again.
• Pr eset buttons cannot be use d when the setup
menu is displayed.
T he preset stations may be initializ ed if a
maintenance service is performe d.
Please not e your settings in case you need to
preset them again.

Low Ba ttery (flashes, and the power is
