MENU Settings
Enters the MENU mode.
In the MENU mode, pr ess or to select the desir ed menu item or setting, and then pr ess
ENTER/DISP to confirm the sele ction.
AUT O TUNE — A uto tuning
If you have moved to another r egion, or when the unit is rese t, perform the auto tune to
make a new list of r eceiv able DAB stations.
Select “YES” to st art the auto tune proc ess. When finished, the unit r eceives the first sta tion
in alphabetical or der store d by auto tune.
Notes
• DAB auto tune may t ake a few minutes depending on the r egion.
• T o c ancel the auto tune pr oces s halfway , pr ess MENU or BACK. An y stations re ceived befor e
cancella tion are stor ed in the unit.
SLEEP — Sleep timer
The unit automatically turns off aft er the set time has elapsed.
Select the desired timer se tting (minutes) from the f ollowing:
60/ 45/30/15/OFF (deactivated)
When the sleep timer is set, “SLEEP” appears on the display .
PRESET — Pr ese tting stations
Y ou c an prese t up to 10 stations each f or DAB and FM. See the pr evious “Pr esetting
stations” section f or details on how to pr eset stations using the PRESET butt on.
SA VE: The station you ar e listening to will be stor ed in the unit. Select the desir ed prese t
number , then pr ess ENTER/DISP .
Note
If another station is alr eady assigned to the select ed preset number , that sta tion is replac ed by
the new one.
DELETE: Y ou can delete any unnec essary stations from the pr eset list. Select the pr eset
number you want to clear , then press ENTER/DISP .
INFO — Sta tion information
Y ou can display the various information of the D AB station you are list ening to.
CHANNEL: Channel (See the DAB fr equency table in “Specific ations. ”)
ENSEMBLE: Ensemble label (up to 16 char acters long)
ST A TION: Station name
PTY : PTY label (See “PTY (pr ogramme type)” in “Specific ations. ”)
BIT RA TE: Bit rat e
SIGNAL: Signal level, from 0 (no signal) t o 100 (maximum)
Notes
• If there is no ensemble label or no sta tion name, “NO NAME” will be displayed.
• Charact ers that cannot be displayed appear as “_” .
LIGHT — Backlight
ON: The backlight will be on all the time when the unit is powered by the A C adaptor .
When you use the unit on batteries, the backlight will turn off aut omatically if no oper ation
is performed for 30 sec onds.
AUT O: The backlight will turn off automatic ally if no operation is perf ormed for 30 seconds.
MANUAL — Manual tuning
If the DAB r eception by aut o tune is poor quality , try manual tuning.
1 Select a desire d DAB channel.
The unit starts scanning for the r eceiv able stations in the selected channel.
2 Select the station you w ant to listen to .
Tip
The new DAB sta tion receive d by manual tuning is stored in the unit.
TIME — Setting the clock
SET : “ AUT O” is set by def ault, which enables the clock to synchr onize with any D AB data
being rec eived. Select “MANU AL ” to se t the clock manually using the , and ENTER/DISP
buttons.
12H/24H: Select the clock display mode, 12-hour clock or 24 -hour clock.
Note
When the clock is set manually , the clock will be r eset if the A C adaptor is unplugged and the
batteries ar e removed for mor e than 1 minute.
BEEP — Oper ation beep
Select “ON” to enable the be ep that sounds when you opera te the unit.
RESET — Resetting the unit
Select “OK” to r eset the unit to the f actory defaults. All the settings, pr esets and the list of
rec eivable D AB stations will be deleted.

Do not install the applianc e in a confined space , such as a bookc ase or built-in cabine t.

on the apparatus.
As the main plug of AC adapt or is used to disconnect the A C adaptor fr om the mains, connect it
to an easily acc essible AC outle t. Should you notice an abnormality in it, disconnect it from the
AC outlet imme diately .
The unit is not disconnect ed from the A C power sourc e (mains) as long as it is connected t o the
wall outlet, even if the unit itself has been turne d off.
The nameplate and important informa tion concerning saf ety are loc ated on the bottom e xterior
of the main unit and on the surface of the A C adaptor .
Exc essive sound pres sure from earphones and headphones c an cause hearing loss.
Do not expose the ba tteries (battery pack or batteries installed) t o ex cessive heat such as
sunshine, fir e or the like for a long time .
In case of battery leakage
If the battery fluid has leaked, do no t touch the fluid with your bare hands.
Battery fluid may remain inside the unit. C onsult your nearest Sony dealer .
If battery liquid gets into your eyes, do no t rub your eyes, as blindness may occur . Quickly wash
your eyes with plenty of clean water and imme diately seek medical a ttention.
If battery liquid gets on your body or clothing, burns or injury may occur . Quickly wash off with
clean water , and seek medic al attention if skin inflammation or injuries oc cur .

Pr ec autions
• Operat e the unit only on the power sourc es specified in “Specifications. ” F or battery opera tion,
use four LR6 (size AA) alk aline batteries. F or AC oper ation, use only the supplied A C adaptor .
Do not use any other type of A C adaptor .
• F ailure to use the supplied A C adaptor may c ause the unit to malfunction, as
the polarity of the plugs of other manufactur ers may be different.
• When operating the unit on ba tteries, it is re commended that you r emove the AC adapt or from
the wall outlet and the DC IN 6 V jack. Disc onnect the plug of the ext ernal power source bef ore
operating the unit.
• Use the unit within a temper ature r ange of 0°C to 40°C. If it is use d in tempera tures higher than
this range , numbers may appear in the display which have nothing to do with the fr equency
being rec eived. If it is used in temper atures lower than this r ange, the numbers displayed may
change very slowly . (These irregularities will disappear and ther e will be no damage to the unit
when the unit is used in the rec ommended temper ature r ange again.)
• When listening with headphones, use ster eo (3-pole) or monaural (2-pole) mini plug
headphones. Sound may not be hear d with other types of headphones.
• Avoid e xposure to t emperatur e extr emes, direct sunlight, moistur e, sand, dust or mechanic al
shock. Never leave in a car park ed in the sun.
• Should any solid object or liquid fall into the unit, disconnect the AC adaptor and r emove the
batteries, and have the unit check ed by a qualified personnel befor e operating it an y further.
• Since a str ong magnet is used for the speak ers, keep personal cr edit car ds using magnetic
coding or spring-wound wa tches away fr om the unit to prevent possible damage fr om the
magnetism.
• T o clean the casing, use a soft dry cloth. Do no t use any type of solvent, such as alcohol or
benzine, which may damage the finish.
• Do not oper ate the unit with wet hands sinc e it may cause a short circuit.

T r oubleshooting
Should any problem persist aft er you have made the following checks, c onsult your
nearest Sony dealer .
Display is dim, or no indica tion is displayed.
• The unit is being used in extr emely high or low temper atures or in a plac e with exc essive
moisture.
V ery weak or interrupted sound, or unsatisfactory r eception.
• If you are in a building, list en near a window .
• Extend the antenna and adjust the length and the angle for best r ecep tion.
• Replace all the batt eries with new ones if they are exhaust ed.
• If a mobile phone is placed close to the unit, a loud noise may be heard
from the unit. K eep the phone away fr om the unit.
Batteries ge t exhausted very quickly .
• Be sure to turn off the unit when no t using it. The estimated batt ery life is 10 – 13 hours.
See “Specifica tions” for details.
The battery compartment lid has come off .
• The battery compartment lid is designed to c ome off when opened
with ex cessive f orce . Insert the right hinge of the lid into the right
hole of the compartment ( ), then insert the left hinge into the left
hole ( ).
Messages
L OW BA TT (flashes, and the power is turned off )
• The batteries ar e exhausted. Replac e all the batteries with new ones.
NO SIGNAL
• There is no supported D AB broadcast in your r egion.
• Y ou have lost the reception of the select ed DAB br oadcast.
NO PRESET
• There is no pr eset station.
ST A TION FULL
• The list of DAB sta tions stored in the unit is full.
OFF AIR
• The selected sta tion or service is currently not br oadcasting.
