Splitting events
Vegas Movie Studio software allows you to create multiple, independently functioning events from a single
event by splitting it. Splitting creates a new ending point for the original event and creates a starting point
for the newly created event. Splitting an event does not alter the original media. The original media files
information is there, but omitted for playback, based on where the events starting or ending point occurs on
the timeline.
1.
Select the event to be split.
2.
Place the cursor at the timeline position where you want the split to
occur.
3.
Split the event(s) by doing one of the following:
Press the key.
•From the Edit menu, choose Split Event.
Click the Split Event button ( ) on the main toolbar.
To split multiple events, use the key, the key, or the Selection Edit Tool (accessible from the
Edit
menu by choosing
Editing Tool, followed by Selection) to select the events. For more information, see Selecting
multiple events on page 22.
Shifting the contents of an event
Events in a Vegas Movie Studio project are defined by their duration and not by the actual content.
Typically, an event is a portion of a larger source media file saved somewhere on your computer. For
example, you could have an event that contains only ten seconds (e.g. from 00:40 to 00:50) of a one minute
video file. The actual footage it contains can be modified in a number of ways, including shifting it to
encompass, for example, from 00:20 to 00:30 in the original video file. To shift the contents of an event,
press the key while dragging left or right on a video event.
