De VAIO-computer gebruiken
Communicatie tussen Wireless LAN-apparaten die de standaard IEEE802.11a gebruiken en apparaten die IEEE 802.11b of IEEE 802.11g gebruiken,
is niet mogelijk omdat de gebruikte frequenties verschillend zijn.
IEEE 802.11b: de standaardsnelheid is 11 Mbps. Dit is 30 tot 100 maal sneller dan een normale inbelverbinding.
IEEE 802.11a/g: de standaardsnelheid is 54 Mbps. Dit is ongeveer 5 keer zo snel als de snelheid van een Wireless LAN-apparaat dat via IEEE 802.11b
communiceert.
De 2,4GHz-bandbreedte die wordt gebruikt door apparaten die compatibel zijn met Wireless LAN, wordt ook gebruikt door diverse andere soorten
apparaten. Ondanks dat apparaten die compatibel zijn met Wireless LAN gebruikmaken van technieken om storing van andere apparaten die dezelfde
bandbreedte gebruiken te minimaliseren, kan dergelijke storing leiden tot een lagere communicatiesnelheid, een kleiner communicatiebereik of een
onderbroken draadloze verbinding.
De communicatiesnelheid varieert afhankelijk van de afstand tussen de communicerende apparaten, de aanwezigheid van obstakels tussen de
apparaten, de configuratie van de apparaten, de zendcondities en de gebruikte software. Bovendien kunnen de communicaties worden afgesneden,
afhankelijk van de zendcondities.
Het communicatiebereik varieert afhankelijk van de werkelijke afstand tussen de communicerende apparaten, de aanwezigheid van obstakels tussen de
apparaten, de zendcondities, de onmiddellijke omgeving, waaronder de aanwezigheid van muren en de materialen waarvan deze gemaakt zijn, en de
gebruikte software.
Als u IEEE 802.11b- en IEEE 802.11g-producten implementeert op hetzelfde draadloze netwerk, kan de communicatiesnelheid lager worden als gevolg
van radiostoring. Bovendien zijn IEEE 802.11g-apparaten zodanig ontworpen dat ze de communicatiesnelheid verlagen als ze communiceren met
IEEE 802.11b-producten.
Wanneer de communicatiesnelheid lager is dan verwacht, kan de communicatiesnelheid hoger worden door het draadloze kanaal op het toegangspunt
te veranderen.
